August 20, 2008 - On behalf of the Call Committee, I (Tom Onnen) would like to share again the pastoral profile that we submitted to Pastor Stoterau at the Pacific Southwest District office. They then used this document to establish a list of potential pastoral candidates for us to consider. You might remember that we shared the Pastoral profile with you during our June 22 Voters meeting and asked for your feed back through two questions. We validated our profile with your answers which allowed us to better discern the information that was to be provided by the District. The items that make up our Pastoral Profile are as follows:

• Flexible Passionate Worshipper – one who embraces both traditional and contemporary worship and who provides dynamic, engaging, creative, relevant and theologically sound sermons.

• Rich Prayer Life – one who has a dynamic relationship with the Father, placing himself under God’s authority.

• Spiritual – one who is open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in himself and others serving with him.

• Approachable/Accessible – one who has an “open door policy,” particularly with regard to Staff.

• Compassion for People – one who has a mission mentality and demonstrates intimacy and concern for the congregation and the community at large.

• Attitude of Humility – one who is willing to participate with others with a servant’s heart.

• Leadership/Equipping – one who is confident and comfortable in who he is in Christ and able to model and empower humble leadership and service in others.

• Experienced – one who has been practicing ministry as a called and ordained servant for 10 – 15 years.

We received the names and personal information for 10 pastoral candidates back from our district office on July 7 when we met with our Circuit counselor, Pastor Chuck Pearson. After review of this information by the committee, we then met together on July 19 to discuss how the information provided by the district and the individual candidates matched up to our Pastoral profile. In that meeting, we reduced the number of candidates to five that we felt best met the profile we had established. We then contacted all five candidates to ask if they would be open to a call to Bethlehem and be willing to take part in a telephone interview. Four of the five pastors did indicate an interest in a telephone interview with the call committee. These interviews were conducted on the nights of August 11th and 13th. As a result of the telephone interviews, the committee has chosen two of the four candidates to further explore our ministerial fit through in-person interviews.

Currently we are in the process of selecting the dates for these in-person interviews. It is our hope that we will be able to conclude these two interviews by the end of the first week in September and then bring a recommendation forward to the congregation for review and consideration for placing a call to one of the two men to become our next Sr. Pastor sometime by the middle of September.

We are nearing the final step in this process and have two exceptional candidates to choose from. We ask that everyone in the congregation be in prayer for these last steps of ours and for the ministries and decisions that we will ask of the selected candidate. Please feel free to contact any one of the call committee members is you have any questions regarding any of this information. Thank you and God bless.

August 14, 2008 - the Call team conducted interviews this past week with four pastoral candidates. The committee is now reviewing the next steps.

July 19, 2008 - The call team met Saturday morning July 19th to review the call list prepared for us by our District Office. The result is a list of five names to be considered by the committee. The next step will be to arrange and conduct phone interviews as soon as they can be scheduled.

July 14, 2008 - The call team met Monday July 7th with Pastor Chuck Pearson, our Circuit Counselor. Pastor Pearson delivered the call list from the district and led us in a discussion on our next steps, which include processing the information and begin to shorten the list to candidates that best meet our profile.
The team will meet again on Saturday July 19th. Continue to pray for the call team, God’s will for our church, and for all the men on the list.

May 12, 2008 - The Call Committee met to complete the standardized interview questions. Pastor profiles and a list of candidates were sent to the District in April. We hope to have a response in June. Once the information is received from our District, the Committee will meet again.

April 14, 2008 - The Committee met and completed the pastor profile and a list of candidates to serve Bethlehem. Information has been sent to the District for review. The Committee is now working on developing standardized interview questions. Our next meeting will be scheduled in early May
