CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

Worship and Learning

Worship is one of the primary ways people learn what it means to be a Christian. Children learn to worship by worshiping with the congregation on a continuous basis.

  • They learn that they belong to Christ’s Church.
  • They gain memorable experiences of Christian community from which they may draw later.
  • They are enriched by the beauty of music and by our expressions of thanks to God.
  • They hear Bible stories read and interpreted, many of which they recognize from church school.
  • They begin to see worship as a special place where God speaks to them and they can speak to God.
  • They discover that they are valued as persons by God and their church family.
  • They recognize worship as a special time for family togetherness.

Bringing children to worship is not always easy, but it is an essential part of their growth in Christ. A sensitivity to children’s abilities and needs can help make worship a meaningful experience for everyone.

Nursery and Preschool Program

While we welcome all children in worship, there are times that parents of the smallest children may feel the need to take advantage of nursery care. Nursery is available for any or all of the worship service for children age birth through five years. Please feel free to use it as needed.

Discovery Time

At the 10:00a.m. Worship Service, children of all ages are invited to come forward for Discovery Time.  This is the time when they are told a very short Bible lesson or story.  It is quite acceptable for a parent or older sibling to come forward if a little one is afraid to sit alone.  Soon your children will learn that this is “their” time and will be ready to go on their own.  After Discovery Time the children are dismissed to attend Sunday School downstairs.
