An old Chinese proverb says, “If you are planting for a year, plant grain.  If you are planting for a decade, plant trees.  If you are planting for a century, plant people.”  Before formal trade schools, law schools, and seminaries, an apprenticeship was the only means of transmitting values, skills, and character qualities from one generation to the next.  This process which today is called mentoring, has produced many, if not most of the men who have positively influenced the ages…even our generation. 

(1)  Modeling a Worthy Christian Life

Paying attention to others

Being seen, heard, and known

Accepting, helping, befriending and encouraging others...intentionally or unintentionally........having a Godly influence!

(2) Forming Significant Friendships

Leaders to Followers; Teachers to Students;

Older to Younger; More Experienced to less Experienced;

Being accessible, praying for, counseling and serving others in groups or casually as...an Informal Mentor

(3) Fostering Spiritual Maturity

Through consistent personal contacts in a climate of openness and a

passion for growth toward Christlikeness;

Reproducing others who can reproduce others as....an Intentional Mentor
