Catechumens and Inquirers Class *What is a catechumen?* Catechumens are those who have expressed an explicit desire to be baptized into the Eastern Orthodox Church and who are currently preparing to receive the same by regular participation in Sunday worship and a recognized program of preparation. Catechumens and Inquirers Class -- The Catechumens and Inquirers Class is an opportunity to learn about the basic doctrines and practices of the Orthodox Church. The next class begins Monday, September 15th at 6:30 pm.
Orthodox Study Group The Orthodox Study Group will begin again on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30 pm. TOPIC: The Formation of the Canon of Holy Scripture: How we got the Bible. We will explore the historical development and process of inclusion and exclusion of various Christian writings. We will also look at why some writings came to be considered Scripture; why some, while not considered Scripture, are considered part of Church Tradition, and why still others are considered heretical. From the basis of our study, we will further explore the notion of proper hermeneutics (Biblical interpretation).		Sunday School Focus: The Disciples For several months, the first and second grade "Disciples" Sunday School class has studied the Old Testament. With their teacher Katherine Champlin, the Disciples Cecelia, Elena, Eleni, Jordan, and Mason have discussed how people today are very much like people from the time of the Old Testament. Bible teachings of Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, Joseph and his colorful robe, Moses, the wise King Solomon and Queen Esther, have prepared these young Disciples for their next journey -- The New Testament. As we begin this Holiday Season, our Disciples will discuss the Angel Gabriel's visit to Mary, the genealogy of Jesus as well as their own family tree, Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus. The Disciples will host an open house on Sunday, December 16, immediately following the Liturgy. Our classroom is located upstairs. Our door will be open and we will be delighted to show you our travels through the Old Testament.
