From the Rector:
Matthew 6:34 "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today.
Did you know there are only four verses in the Old and New Testaments that reference worry or concern and over forty-five verses that reference giving thanks to God? And of the four verses all remind us not to worry but to place our faith and trust in God.
Jesus reminds us that we do not need to carry the burden ourselves. He reminds us that we are to place our trust in God because He will sustain us and help us through each day. It is easy to place our “trust” and “faith” in God when times are not uncertain and when times are good. It is when we trust in Him and thank Him during the uncertain and difficult times we are able to see the many blessings in our lives.
Also when we thank God and when we place our full trust in Him, our anxiety and burdens are lifted. Giving thanks and trusting God places God in the center of our lives. As we approach pledge Sunday it would be very easy for us to hold onto our anxieties, especially in these uncertain economic times. It is also a time when the measure of our faith is tested. Do we truly trust in God by not worrying? Do we hold onto Jesus’ words not to worry?
Our pledge is to God and the work He is doing at and through St. Elizabeth’s. Let us give thanks for His blessings, trust in Him, and be anxious for nothing as we do the work He has invited us to do.
