SOUTHWIDE CHURCH HISTORY
OUR PAST
Alice Creek and Hew Home were churches located in the Eglin Reservation. Around 1944, both churches were ordered to leave the area along with many families living there. Many of these families soon realized the need for a church in their community. Southwide Baptist Church was organized in 1945 by Rev. Murdock Morrison and some forty members coming from both Alice Creek and New Home churches.
OUR PRESENT
The mission of Southwide Baptist Church is to glorify God under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, to proclaim His word to all the world, to minister to the needs of our church and community, to fellowship in unity and disciple believers for Christian growth through our Lord Jesus Christ. Southwide has truly been blessed and has grown from some forty members in 1945 to a total of 463 members today. Southwide Baptist Church has come a long way since the first congregation met in a small wooden building. Today Southwide stands as a symbol to the community as a tribute to what God’s people can do when they put Him first.
