Richard Moore is currently serving as pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, Iowa. A native of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, he entered full time ministry in 1991. He has served the Covenant Church in Sloan since 1996. Pastor Moore received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado in elementary education and a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska in the field of vocational and adult education. He completed his work in the field of divinity at Bethel University and Seminary in St. Paul, MN. His areas of interest include social justice and health ethics.
Pastor Moore has been selected by the Office of Education in Iowa to receive the Governor's Volunteer Award in 2006. He has previously received the Friend of Education by the Westwood Education Association and an outstanding achievement award winner from the Alzheimer’s Association for work in area of public policy. Pastor Moore received a nomination in 2007 for the Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives and Professionals.
He is serving on the Board of Directors for the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. He is also serving on the rural outreach board of the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence based in Sioux City, Iowa.
Known as simply “Rev” to the area students, his community activities include working as the public address announcer for 7 sports at Westwood Community Schools. He sponsors annual youth outings for the middle school and high school students in the Westwood area.
He is married to Mimi, who in addition to being a licensed lay pastor, is a high school principal in the Sioux City Public Schools. The couple recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. The Moore’s have two adult sons; Aaron, a Registered Nurse and medical school student in Omaha, NE and Paul, an instructor in English and Literature at the community college level and based in Carbondale, IL. The Moore’s live in Sloan with their new puppy, Cecilia.
