The meeting began with the Council viewing a video from the General Board of Discipleship about the vision of the church in 2092. Following the video, Pastor posed two questions for the group’s reflection: “How does our congregation need to be transformed to meet the challenges of the next 20 – 80 years?” and “How do we as individuals need to be transformed to meet the challenges?”

Finance – Edie Blakeslee

The Treasurer’s report was presented in printed form, showing a mid April General Fund balance of $7534.85. The April apportionment has been paid.

The Finance Committee has been discussing a procedure to deal with check writing when the treasurer is unavailable. Mike Fogt moved the Finance Committee appoint a designated representative to sign checks in the event of the Treasurer’s absence. The current representative is to be Marcia Ellenberger.  Jan Ehrig seconded the motion which passed by a vote of the Council.

The Memorial Committee and the church secretary have worked out a system in the accounting of memorial donations. 

Aid & Assistance – No report

The balance is $451.62.

Christian Ed – Sheila Kiehne

Sunday School - Teachers have been approached for next year’s assignments. Volunteers will be sought for the remaining assignments and to serve as substitutes. 

Campership luncheon – The luncheon is scheduled for May 6, following the worship service.  A signup sheet will be distributed for people to provide salads and bars for the luncheon.

Easter Egg Hunt = The workers’ efforts resulted in an enjoyable event for the participants. Sheila plans to pass along a checklist of the event planning to the Assembly of God person in charge of next year’s hunt. A thank you will be sent to Westview residents for the assistance they provided with the hunt.

Teacher Recognition -  Appreciation for the efforts of the church teachers will be noted at the April 29th  service.

Sheltered Reality is scheduled to be here in two weeks.

Endowment – No report

EOM – Nancy Kiehne

Houses for Haiti – A fundraiser is being planned for July and will include a presentation by the founder of the initiative.

Support for Kelly Samuelson –A tag tree of needed items for the family and their efforts in China will be organized.

Soles for Souls -  EOM is organizing a collection of  shoes to be distributed throughout the world. There will be a box located in the church entry for donations.

Cookie Walk – The church family is encouraged to bring cookies on April 29 for a Cookie Walk. Delivery of plates of cookies will be made to members, seniors, neighbors, newcomers as a May Day treat from our church.  

Blood drive - Tuesday, May 8

Act of Kindness Project – Plans are underway for a Christmas in July project to donate food, gift cards, etc. for an area family in need.

Community picnic – A date in September, possible the 9th, is being considered for our annual worship service and community picnic in the Reinbeck City Park.

Love your Neighbor Day is to be held in the fall.

Parenting Group = The meeting during Wednesday night LIGHT and going very well with active participants. group is

Retreat – Plans are finalized for the retreat to be held at the church on April 21 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm.  

A spring event for single parents is being considered..

Nominations – Pastor Terry

SPRC-Jan Ehrig

The committee is working on the evaluation of the pastor and should finish next Wednesday, April 25.

Trustees – Cliff Moye

Landscaping project – A careful examination of the new plantings indicates good placement and growth.

Cross Project – Following communication from the artist, the committee anticipates the cross will be shipped soon.

Repair of the sidewalk and installation of new entryway carpet are currently under consideration.

Parsonage roof – Work on the roof is scheduled to start July 16. The workers will be tearing off the old shingles from the roof and hope to borrow a straight truck in which to dump the old shingles.

Men’s restroom renovation – Volunteers are being sought to paint the hallway and the men’s restroom.

Parsonage Deck – Parts of the deck floor are rotting and need to be repaired. The Trustees plan to purchase the replacement wood and Pastor has volunteered to make the repairs after the roof is done.

A small fund drive may be required to cover the sidewalk and entryway carpet expenses.

Our sincere gratitude is extended to Mark & Deb Oleson for their work on the lawn care  and to Mark Peterson for maintaining the parking lot.

UMW – Dixie Schildroth

The Rummage sale is scheduled for May 5.

Recipes are being collected and should be submitted by May 22 for publication in the new church cookbook.

Discussion has been conducted on a basic funeral lunch fee to cover the cost  of the items furnished by the church.

Worship – Mike Fogt

Evaluation of recent worship services resulted in consideration of the following suggestions:

- combine the Seder Supper into the Maundy Thursday worship service

- offer congratulations and gratitude on the outstanding Easter Sunrise Service to Pastor and the youth

- rectify the problems with the wireless microphones

 - evaluate the hymn and video selections for the second service

Pastor has planned vacation days throughout the summer.  Dan Smoldt is seeking speakers for the days Pastor is not here.

A summer schedule will be in effect from Memorial Day weekend through the Sunday prior to Labor Day. One worship service a week will be at 9:00 Sunday morning during the summer schedule.

Raising the awareness of the problems older adults face and appreciation of the value they add to our church will be observed on Sunday, April  29.

Mother’s Day observance and high school senior recognition will be May 13.

Youth – Pastor Terry

Thirteen young people are going to camp. The Scrap Drive Fundraiser for the youth’s trip to Louisville will run from May 5 to May 12. Scrap metal may be placed in a receptacle located outside the church. The trip to Louisville trip is scheduled for July 21-29 and will cost $340 + transportation per person

In the coming week everyone is encouraged to thank Jessica and Abigail for the effort and energy they have brought to our church family. They will be graduating from UNI next month.

Pastor’s Report

The next newsletter will be combined for a May and June publication. Newsletter articles, meeting notifications, committee plans are due by April 23.

A lengthy discussion was held regarding the compilation in the fall of a new pictorial church directory. The consensus was our church family has grown in recent years and a new directory would be in order. Edie Blakeslee moved the Council approve a new directory with a second by Cliff Moye. The motion was approved by a vote of the Council.

Since LIGHT will not be held in May, June, July or August, discussion addressed the meeting times of committees and the Administrative Council. Mike Fogt moved all May, June, July and August committee meetings, excluding SPRC,  be held at 6:30 pm on the second Wednesday of the month with the Administrative Council meeting to follow at 7:30 pm. Cliff Moye seconded the motion which carried by a vote of the Council.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Baccalaureate service will be May 16 at 7:30 pm at our church. 

The next Administrative Council meeting will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 7:30 pm.
