Second Baptist Church of Peoria is seeking a part-time Youth Pastor to fill a newly created position. Up to this time, the youth ministry has been led by volunteers. Now the church is committed to supporting a part-time paid position in order to give the youth ministry the attention it deserves.
We are a bible-centered, community-oriented evangelical American Baptist church with an average weekly worship attendance of 110. We have two worship services each Sunday: a Praise and Worship service at 9:15am and a traditional worship service at 10:45am.
The church is located in Limestone Township in Peoria County. The city of Peoria has a population of 113,000.
We seek an enthusiastic and energetic individual with a love for youth and a passion and desire to mentor, train and nurture young people and help them grow in their faith. He or she will be prepared to stay in the position for a term long enough to develop and maintain strong relationships with the youth.
The Youth Pastor will be accountable to the Pastor and to the Christian Education (CE) Board.
Responsibilities and expectations
· Willing to uphold the basic beliefs of Second Baptist Church
· Structure and build youth ministry for Junior and Senior High youth
· Supervise youth ministry volunteers
· Attend church worship each week at Second Baptist Church
· Teach Senior High Sunday School each week – the Youth Pastor is expected to recommend or create the curriculum, which will then be approved by the Christian Education (CE) Board
· Conduct weekly 2-hour youth group meeting (date and time to be determined by the Youth Pastor)
· Hold a monthly social activity with the youth (date, time and activities to be determined by the Youth Pastor)
· Attend CE board meetings on the first Tuesday of each month
· Prepare a report on youth activities for quarterly church business meetings
Skill Set
· Love to work with Junior and Senior High students
· Desire to teach and mentor
· Based on a personal love of the Bible, able to teach the Bible to youth
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Compassionate
· Good organizational skills
· Good time management
· Musical ability is a plus
Educational Requirements
1. Some college or a college degree strongly preferred; may be a current college or seminary student
2. High School graduate required
3. Youth ministry experience or training a plus
Salary: $100 per week
