The Christian Church.............................................................................................................................................. West Union, Illinois
Join us

We welcome you to join us in worship.

The Christian Church at West Union, Illinois is … difficult to classify. The quick and easy description would be a missions oriented church in rural southeastern Illinois. That really doesn’t describe the church or the congregation.

For over 40 years we have supported missions through a Faith Promise program totally independent of the church general fund.  We are a unique mix of traditional and innovative.  Contemporary or traditional is not an issue.  Banjo, dulcimer, piano, bass guitar, and organ may all be heard, sometimes in the same service.
Hymnals or Power Point is not an issue.  We use both.  The short description is:

We are a non-denominational independent Christian Church.

We meet for worship

Sunday morning at 9:30

and

Sunday evening at 7:00

Communion is offered weekly to all believers who desire it at both services.  You are not required to be a member of this congregation, just a believer in God and Jesus as your Savior.

For those who wish to support our congregation financially an offering is collected in the morning service.

Bible School is after the morning worship service at about 10:30.

Wednesday evenings at 7:00

we meet for our mid week services. There is are adult and kids classes with lots of youth activities.

Various functions of the church are handled by ministry teams. Education, fellowship, worship enhancement, finance etc are ministries overseen by members of the congregation.

We mentioned a weekend revival in June.  It is actually a little more than that.  The first weekend in June will be a chance to meet and greet Ken Gilaspy and family.  Ken has meet with the pulpit search committee, the elders, and been approved by the church board as candidate for preacher.

We are doing things a little differently than in the past.  Historically the new preacher has kind of been a surprise to the congregation.  He would come in on Sunday morning, preach a sermon, and be voted on.  That wasn't really fair to anyone.

We are going to take a little more time for them to get to know us and us to get to know Ken and his family.     Exact details are not worked out yet, but the weekend of June 1-3  we plan to meet Ken and his family Friday evening with Ken speaking, Saturday evening we will have a carry in meal with Ken speaking, and Ken will preach Sunday morning.

So be on your best behavior, polish up your sneakers and cowboy boots, and start planning on something really good to bring Saturday evening.

We'll have a few more details as we get closer.

Next Sunday our Worship Leader will be Les Leighty. Pianist will be Brenda Artwood, organist Diane Wyman.  The Spotlighted mission will be Good News Productions with Robert Ledermann leading in prayer.

You would expect everything on a church's web site to be by, for and about it, right? We don't think we are THAT important. So we bring you articles and news from others from time to time.  They used to be on the home page.  They are VERY good and deserve to be here.  But it cluttered things up too much, so we moved them to their own separate page:

Some Great Writings to Read And Ponder On

We may not always agree with them, but if we don't we need to consider why and make sure our differences are important and not just opinion.
