Here’s my Life Verse – What’s Yours?
Perhaps many of you already have this, but if not, have you ever
thought about asking God to give you a “Life Verse?” Maybe you ask, “What’s
that?” Well according to the dictionary by Ruthann, a “Life Verse” is
a passage of scripture consistently used by God to instruct you,
correct you and give you a hope and a future. Can a single verse, or maybe a
short passage really do all of that? You bet!
You see, in a time of need or crisis you may not have a Bible handy or
be able to recall lengthy or multiple passages of scriptures. But one
verse – your Life Verse - will be there to meet you and give you what
you need for that moment. Let me share with you what I mean.
My Life Verse is II Peter 1:3. “His (God’s) divine power has given us
(me) everything we (I) need for life and godliness through our
knowledge of him who called us (me) by his own glory and goodness.” This verse
assures me that for today God has already provided everything I need to
live my life and live it in a godly manner that will please Him.
Everything I need – not want – need. Sometimes therein lies the problem.
Maybe I’ve confused my needs and my wants and when I don’t get what I
want, then I perceive God has failed me. But not so. He’s telling me
here in this verse that He has already provided for me what I need. I
just need to learn how to recognize it and appropriate it. Here’s my
present-day application.
Two days ago we were suddenly informed that the home we have been
renting and living in for the past 20 years is being put up for sale. Our
wonderful landlady needs her money out quickly, and though she has given
us first offer to purchase, a huge array of crisis-type problems arise,
which I won’t belabor here. But immediately God reminded me of this
verse with the assurance that He has my tomorrows just as much in hand as
He ever did. Do I know why this has happened now – or why it’s
happened at all? No, nor do I understand what God’s plan is to provide us
with a new abode – one that we can afford and will work for my physical
needs and our business requirements. God has a big job here, but praise
His Name, according to my Life Verse He has already provided for our
life’s needs! He is so awesome!
Now, how about you? Are you using your Life Verse to sustain you
through thick and thin? Or if you’ve never chosen one, can I impress upon
you now reasons to do so? I would love for you to share with me your
verse and how God has used that in your life. May I hear from you soon?
Until next time … love and prayers,
RuthAnn Gleason, the Parson's Wife
