REMEMBERING OUT VETERANS  Remember to attend the Memorial Day Observance at Mayfair Park on Monday, May 28—please check the time with Village Hall.  Our church will hold a special time of observance for veterans, including a special observance called “The Empty Chair” on Sunday, July 1 during worship.

The Illinois Conference of our United Church of Christ (UCC) is looking for some help with the 2012 Annual Meeting, if you can bake cookies, we would really appreciate it.  There is a signup sheet in the Narthex, please bring them to church by June 7th.

Getting To Know You!! Parish Fellowship wants everyone to learn each other’s names.  You will find your nametag on the table in the south corner of the Narthex by the front door.  After worship, place your nametag in the basket on the table before you leave.  Cannot find yours?  Call Sue in the office at 708-865-1282.

The Wednesday Bible Study will meet each Wednesday, 9:30 am, at Mariner Health.  We will meet May 23.
Faith Conversations meets the 1st and 3rd Sundays after church.
Sunday Bible Studies — the 2nd and 4th Sundays after church.

Did you notice the Big Red Box on the south side of our parking lot?  In this box we are collecting clothing, shoes and linens to raise money for St. John UCC.  Items you put in the box are used to help people in need and any unusable items are sold for scrap.  So clean out that closet and put any discarded items in the red box.  Thanks, the Mission Board.

Informational Luncheon  The Board of Parish Fellowship will be hosting an informational luncheon on Sunday, June 3rd following worship.  If you are interested in learning more about Westchester Community Church UCC, please call the church office at 708/865-1282.

Attention: If there is enough interest, Dorothy Malczewski and Brenna McKenzie would like to start a new group that would meet on select Tuesday mornings.  We will work on projects for The Harvest of Crafts; from creating/assembling items to organizing and pricing.  We will also have access to the knit/crochet supplies and patterns that we use for the prayer shawls and chemo caps that are given to those in need and charity groups such as Mom’s too Soon, Night Ministry and other organizations.  We will be meeting at 9:30 am in the South Basement on the Tuesdays following the regular crafters, and Sassy Stitchers Meetings.  May 15 & 22, June 12 & 19, July 10 & 17, August 14 & 21.

Annual Kitchen Supplies Shower—  Items Needed:  beverage and luncheon sized napkins, 6” paper/foam plates, quart and gallon sized resealable plastic bags,  powdered dishwasher detergent, individual coffee creamer (mini-moo), 10” large plates, spoons, aluminum foil, baggies, bowls.  Drop the items off in the narthex or office during the month of May.  ???, call Charlene Dolnics at 708/345-1816.  Thanks!!!

Help Develop Westchester’s Strategic Plan  Your Village is holding a Visioning Workshop for the future of Westchester HERE at WCC on Wednesday, May 30—6:30-8:30 pm

The Youth Mission Trip will be Sunday thru Saturday, July 22-29—YOUTH!!  Sign up on the Rose Room Door now if you are planning on going—we will be at Tower Hill Camp for the week!!

CHURCH PICNIC TIME IS HERE !!!  Sunday, June 24th from 10 AM to about 3 PM, you are all invited to participate in our Annual Church Picnic. This year’s theme is, “For The Birds,” and your church boards will be preparing baskets of silent auction prizes based on this interesting theme. Come out and join us! Tickets will be sold every Sunday before and after church by Picnic Committee members.

We have invited the Tamil UCC congregation to join us and worship will be conducted starting at 10 AM, co-produced by our two ministers, Rev. Mills and Rev. Godwin Raj Kanaka. Last year’s combined service was beautiful & meaningful.


Adults are 7th Grade and older. Adult tickets are $6.00 and give a choice of (2) meat entrees. Children’s tickets are $4.00 and give a choice of (1) meat entrée. Meats are: Hamburger, Hot Dog, Bratwurst, or Chicken Breast. Each family is asked to bring a side dish or a dessert to share.

Our Youth Group will again be selling cold soft drinks. Iced coffee will be available complimentary. We will again have a bake-off competition for all of you “Dessert Chefs.” Prizes will be awarded for the best desserts. We will have music and other fun activities. We picnic rain or shine! In case of rain, our picnic will be held in Field Fellowship Hall.  McDonalds Corp. has again volunteered to donate meat & cheese. To further defray expenses, the WCC Crafters have volunteered to pay for other foods and supplies. Almost all ticket receipts can now be donated to help our church!

            Volunteer workers are needed and welcome to help with a variety of jobs. Please see the sign-up sheet in the narthex or call Bill McCarthy at 630-953-1230 or 630-254-6377. See you there!

Aubrey Sophia Becerra, is the infant daughter of Tina Miller and Marc Becerra.  Owen was born on February 29, 2012 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.  Aubrey’s  godparents are Tina & Ricky Lopez.

Officiating is Rev. Joseph Mills.  Representing the congregation by the Deacons is Denise Kaminski and Peggy Boswell
