The Dogwood Parade Once again, this year, we will have a float in the Dogwood Parade. This year it will feature a beautiful and sizable playhous, modeled after our sanctuary, which Mark Lawrence Costruction is raffling off. (See the picture above). The proceeds from the raffle will go to help support our upcoming Mission to Joplin (May 17-22). Tockets are $1 apiece or six for $5. The Parade starts at 9:00 and we're asking people to start gathering at the float (wear red, white, and blue, if you can) beginning at 8:00. It should be positioned somewhere around QHS on Maine Street. We're inviting people to also help pass out church brochures and sell raffle tickets for the playhouse, along the route.

Major Renovation Makes Big Difference The first phase of the most massive renovation of our church facility, since its original construction, is hearly complete! Mark Lawrence Construction has done a great job, and the weather has been incredibly cooperative. New, more energy-efficient windows have been installed throughout the Education and Office wing of the building, along with new siding that is guaranteed to look good for decades, The eastern exterior wall of the sanctuary has received a dramatic new look that makes the cross stand out against a red background. Less visible, but also important, the leaks in the sanctuary roof around the steeple have been addressed. It looks like a little more work still needs to be done in that respect, but we are confident that it will be entirely remedied, soon. Funding for this massive building improvement was covered by a bequest from the Brosi estate, and we are grateful for this gift which will bless the church and its ministries for many years to come!
Joplin Mission
We have begun planning for a mission to help with the reconstruction of Joplin, MO, May 17-22. We are looking for people who are adept (though not necessarily professional) at carpentry. We are also looking for electricians and plumbers (they will need to be licensed in Missouri.) While Union will sponsor this group, it is not limited to Union UMC members. So, please let any skilled friends you may have, know aout this opportunity. The team will be self-sustaining. They will stay at a local church and prepare their own meals. The cost per volunteer will be $100, which covers, food, lodging and transportation. For further details, please contact Bob Morwell at uumc1199@adams.net
Narcotics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous, an organization for people recovering from drug abuse, built along the same lines as Alcoholics Anonymous, is now holding regular meetings at Union UMC. You can learn more about NA by going here: http://www.na.org/ The group meets Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 PM, Friday and Sunday at 6:00 PM, and also at Noon on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at Noon. NA has helped many people find freedom from slavery to drug addiction. Please keep them in your prayers, and if you should know anyone struggling with a drug problem, please recommend this program to them.
