Union United Methodist Church - Quincy, IL
Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.

Three Simple Rules

Former Iowa Conference Bishop, Rueben Job, has written a small book that offers three simple rules he believed could change your life and our world.

This rules are:  Do no harm.  Do good.  Stay in love with God.

Pastor Morwell will offer his third and final message on the theme of staying in love with God, this Sunday.

You are invited to both worship and study, as we consider how three little rules might have a huge impact on our lives, if we dare to take them seriously.

Child & Family Services

The church will shortly begin hosting the office of Lutheran and Child Family Services, a counseling service that is available to anyone in need (no, not just to Lutherans).

For more information about this well-respected organization, you may click here http://www.lcfs.org/Page.aspx?pid=187

The therapist, based at this office is Theresa Godman, and we welcome her special ministry and we are proud to offer our facility as a site where families and children in crisis can find help.

Support Groups

Union is working hard to minister to people facing life's challenges.  One powerful way to do that is to provide support groups that are sources of useful information and encouraging fellowship.

Here are some of the groups we are working on.  If you, or someone you know, might benefit from participation, please contact us!

Grief:  In his capacity as a volunteer chaplain at Blessing Hospital, Pastor Morwell moderates a group at the hospital which deals with grief over the loss of spouses and parents.  The group is called HEAL and anyone is welcome to participate.

It meets at Blessing in the nursing school wing at 7:00 PM on the third Tuesday of every month.  For additonal information, contact Blessing Hospital or Pastor Morwell at uumc1199@adams.net

Autism:  Union and the Quincy schools have partnered to create an Autism Support Group for the families of autistic children. In recent years, the number of children being diagnosed with this mysterious disorder, and a related one called Asperger's Syndrome, has increased dramatically, for reasons that are not yet fully understood.

The group will meet on the third Monday of each month.   If you are interested in participating, or you can offer help, please contact us at uumc1199@adams.net

Global Women's Gathering

The United Methodist Women will be holding a quadrennial Women's Assembly in St. Louis which will bring women together from all over the world, April 30 -May 2, 2010.

Emmaus Weekends

The Walk to Emmaus is a hugely successful international movement and a powerful spiritual growth opportunity.  Several members of Union UMC had felt their faith deepened and encouraged by articipating in one of these weekend experiences.

While Emmaus weekends are conducted once a year in Quincy, there are other retreats provided in Springfield, Peoria, and the Quad Cities.  Pastor Morwell would be happy to sponsor anyone who is interested in attending any of these events.
