Support Groups

Union is working hard to minister to people facing life's challenges.  One powerful way to do that is to provide support groups that are sources of useful information and encouraging fellowship.

Here are some of the groups we are working on.  If you, or someone you know, might benefit from participation, please contact us!

Grief:  In his capacity as a volunteer chaplain at Blessing Hospital, Pastor Morwell moderates a group at the hospital which deals with grief over the loss of spouses and parents.  The group is called HEAL and anyone is welcome to participate.

It meets at Blessing in the nursing school wing at 7:00 PM on the third Tuesday of every month.  For additonal information, contact Blessing Hospital or Pastor Morwell at uumc1199@adams.net

Autism:  Union and the Quincy schools have partnered to create an Autism Support Group for the families of autistic children. In recent years, the number of children being diagnosed with this mysterious disorder, and a related one called Asperger's Syndrome, has increased dramatically, for reasons that are not yet fully understood.

The group will meet on the third Monday of each month.   If you are interested in participating, or you can offer help, please contact us at uumc1199@adams.net

HELP DISASTER VICTIMS

DONATE TO UMCOR The United Methodist Committee on Relief is delivering aid to many hurricane damaged communities in the US and to victims disaster around the world.  UMCOR has a well-deserved reputation as an agency that is "first in and last out" of these areas.  100% of your donation goes toward the purchase and provision of desperately needed supplies and services.

Church Web Site Lauded

This website was ranked #5 among the top ten church web sites in our area by the Herald-Whig and Union UMC was noted for being a pioneer in the use of the internet, both in terms of our web site and our innovative use of technology to put together worship services like the one we had which linked Christians on six (and almost seven) continents on World Communion Sunday..

The sites which were listed ahead of ours are certainly excellent, but they have been professionally produced, while we are an "in-house" non-professional operation.  Which only goes to show that small churches with less bountiful resources can produce a quality ministry...even in cyberspace!

Emmaus Weekends

The Walk to Emmaus is a hugely successful international movement and a powerful spiritual growth opportunity.  Several members of Union UMC had felt their faith deepened and encouraged by articipating in one of these weekend experiences.

While Emmaus weekends are conducted once a year in Quincy, there are other retreats provided in Springfield, Peoria, and the Quad Cities.  Pastor Morwell would be happy to sponsor anyone who is interested in attending any of these events.

You can find out more about the local Emmaus fellowship by going to their web site at www.grtrivemmaus.org

A Walk to Emmaus weekend retreat can revitalize and energize your spiritual life in wonderful ways!
