Union United Methodist Church - Quincy, IL
Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.

The Outreach of Union

Union United Methodist Church is actively offering the message and comfort of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In doing so, we follow the sage advise of St. Francis who said, "Preach the Gospel at all times.  When necessary, use words."

We strive to tell the story of God's love through preaching and teaching, but we also do it through loving action to help people in need.

Here are just some of our ministries.  You will notice that we place a special emphasis on helping children in the name of Jesus Christ, who said, "Let the little children come to me, for of such is the kingdom of God made."

Helping the Hungry...

The first Sunday of every month is CAN DO! Sunday at Union.  Worshippers are urged to bring canned goods, dry cereals, and other non-perishable foods to the church.  These items are provided to the Quanada Food Pantry which helps a hundred families a month.  We are their largest church contributor.

The annual CROP Walk.  Our Pastor chairs the annual Adams County CROP Walk, and Union is one of the top supporters of this event which raises thousands of dollars to fight hunger around the world.  One fourth of the proceeds go to support Quincy's Salvation Army Food Pantry.

Helping the Abused & Orphaned...

We work with Quanada, an agency that helps victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.  We provide "Wonderful Days"  parties where victims of trauma can experience joy, relaxation, and a bit of pampering as a way of affirming God's love for them.

We support a mission to an orphanage in Belarus.  These children have been nelgected and abused, and the bankrupt former Soviet republic has few resources to care for them.  We bring medicines, play equipment, and a loving presence through volunteer mission teams.

Mentoring and Guiding...

Union sponsors a unique mentoring mission to Irving Elementary School which has a student body with a great many children from impoverished families.  We help provide after-school activities and leadership for a Brownie Scout troop.

We also work to connect the students with interesting role models like scientists and even astronauts.

While we cannot preach the Gospel openly in such a setting, we believe our actions send a powerful message that Jesus loves the little children.

Habitat for Humanity

Union UMC has taken a leading role in a project sponsored by our local Habitat affiliate.  The goal of the project is to build a home for a family in Hancock County, MS, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The project involves helping to buy and build a pre=fabrictaed home.
