About Vincennes FMC
The Vincennes Free Methodist Church was organized in 1891. The congregation worshipped for a few years without a church building. In 1894 a frame structure was built on the corner of Fourth and Sycamore streets. This was replaced by a new brick building in 1927. Additional construction took place in 1956 to provide for a youth chapel, more classrooms, a pastor's study and a fellowship hall. In 1962 a new sanctuary and foyer were added, along with increased office space, classrooms, restrooms, nursery space, a sound control room, and a conference room. In 1991-92 the newest addition was built which includes new offices, restrooms, conference room, kitchen and family life center gym.
Through the years the building has evolved from a small little building to what it is today. Going from the old sanctuary to a new one, along with the additions of a gym and office space, the church has and is looking forward to growth. Our goal is to reach out and provide love and support to our neighborhood, town, and surrounding areas.
There have been several gifted pastors and eventual superintendents which have given the church great confidence and pride.
Many of the pastors put in some hard work and a lot of time to make this corner what it is today. They have continually pushed forward to better the church as God has led them. They have celebrated: 2 mortgage burnings, hosted a missions convention, "Whatever it Takes" campaign, hosted conference workshops, Centennial Celebration in 1991, and many other events.
There are some new programs and new projects in store for us in the next couple of years that will allow us continue to be helpful and relevant to the community of Vincennes. We have some good work ahead of us as we look at our church here in Vincennes.
