About Our Church
Nottingham Community Church has been in existence longer than any one can remember. At one time used as a one room school house, the original building has been used as a church for most of the last century. Situated in what once was an oil boom town, the church now presides over the little community of a handful of houses.
In years past, the church held revival tent meetings with some of the great evangelists of a bygone era speaking and singing. Those tent meetings ceased in the early 1980's.
In the early 90's, the membership saw the need of building a new sanctuary. The Lord has blessed the congregation many times in both the old and the new buildings. In the late 1990's, the old sanctuary was redesigned so it could be used as a fellowship hall.
For 26 years, Rev. Vesta Wable pastored the church. Then, for 23 years Rev. David Stalker pastored the church. In the fall of 2005, Rev Stalker felt the need to retire, and Lloyd Keely filled the pulpit for the remainder of '05. With the start of a new year, Rev. Johnny Smith has agreed to become the new pastor at Nottingham.
In the fall of 2005, the church membership felt led of the Lord to aproach the Central Yearly Meeting of Friends about becoming a member of that Denomination. CYM was more than willing to assume the responsibilty of the church, and Nottingham has been absorbed into the Home Extension arm of CYM.
Nottingham has long been known for upholding and espousing the Doctrine of Holiness, and with the Lord's help, will continue to do so for years to come.
