History
In 1787, Richard Allen (the founder) and a group of free slaves walked out of St. George's Methodist Episcopal Church and the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church began. Almost a hundred years later (1886), GOD blessed the organization of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 110 West Avenue E. Street in Hutchinson, Kansas.
We thank the LORD for our humble beginning with 25 members. Bethel was damaged extensively by fire in 1941, but with GOD'S blessings along with the help of the community, the Church was repaired. Later, the property was rezoned and the Church was forced to relocate. In 1963, Bethel's present facility was built through love and dedication to GOD'S work.
With the help of the Lord, Bethel will continue to fulfill its dream of addressing the needs of the community as a "beacon of hope" and Ecumenical Fellowship.†
