GREETINGS, ALUMNI and THANK Y0U * GRATIAS * SALAMAT * ARIGATO * MERCI
Many thanks to all the Alums, especially the classes ending in 4 and 9, and SX parishioners who attended the Alumni Banquet and Dance May 29th. Despite the warm conditions, all went well. A huge thank you to Ruth (Rohrer) Johnson ’54, the guest speaker at the event who spoke of her experiences growing up in JC attending SX. She aptly centered her speech on the evening’s theme of “A Garden of Memories.” Co-emcees, Bernice (Boller) Erichsen ’48 and Karen (Forkenbrock) ’66 gave special recognition to Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Toy ’33, one of the oldest living alums, and to the Sisters of St. Joseph in attendance. They were Sister Margaret Ann Buser who taught English at SXHS and Sister Agnes Bernita Green who taught 4th grade at SXGS. Following the prayer before the meal by Father Al Brungardt, pastor of SX Church, a delicious dinner was served by Stacy’s of Grandview Plaza. Entertainment was provided by several members of the Troubadours, a choral group of senior citizens under the direction of Manny Pasquil ’55. An instrumental woodwind ensemble of Troubadours including Deb Breidenstein, SX religion teacher, provided music during the social gathering held prior to the banquet. Dance music was provided by Larry Clark and his “One Man Big Band” of San Antonio, TX. Alums from the classes of 44, 49, 54, 64, 69,74, 79, 84, 99, and 04 were well represented. However, the classes of 59, 84, and 94 had no representation this year. Those attending were: Rudy Neubauer ’44; Bob Moritz & Shirley Haley ’49; Jay Billinger, James Billinger, LaRue Finney, Don George, Mary Gottlieb, Ruth Johnson, Dick Paxton, Billie Jo Rivera, John Roybal, Jr, Dorothy Schicktanz, & Betty Wilson ’54; Dan Harris, Tom Sharp, & Pat Weber ’64; Harry Lauri, Collette Matthews, Mary Lou Nuttleman, & Sheila Waymire ’69; Mary Acosta, Mary Field, Linda Haag, Rod Mays, Dan Richards, & Mike Dixon ’74; Eileen Somerville ’79; Michelle Burkhart, Kim Coy, & Robert Potter ’84; Kristel Jahnke ’99; Garret Boller, James Crabtree, Clifford Crabtree, Aurora Cunningham, Elizabeth Hernandez, Tabitha Myers, Raul Perez, Elizabeth White, Krista Wood, & Daniel Zoeller ’04. SX ALUMNI DONATES $$ TO CSJ & SX TEACHERS
In answer to the question, “How is the money spent?” you will be proud to know that the Alumni Committee was able to donate $2000 this year to the SX teachers—actually $100 for each of the 20 teachers on staff to be used for whatever items needed for their classrooms AND another $2000 to the Sisters of St Joseph Retirement/Development Fund. These monies were donated by alums and other SX boosters, such as those mentioned above, and left to accumulate in our bank account these past few years. We hope and pray that ALL alums and SX boosters will continue to support the Alumni Committee’s efforts in planning the annual banquets and by giving a little extra for noteworthy causes.
