A Highlight of Rev. DB Wilson
The Rev. Delishia Boykin Wilson comes from a long line of pastors. "There have been five generations," said Wilson, associate pastor of Burks Chapel AME Church. "My dad didn't have any sons so they thought the legacy had ended."

Wilson and her husband, the Rev. Jeremiah Wilson, senior pastor at Burks Chapel, moved to Paducah from Cincinnati in November with their 19-month-old daughter, Jamaya. They replaced the Rev. Ron Owen, who transferred to Louisville. "We didn't know where Paducah was," she said. "It's a nice town and I'm getting used to it. We wanted a smaller place to raise the baby."

Wilson, decided to become a minister while she was taking law classes at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Her father, the Rev. Ronald Boykin, pastors the 1,000-member First AME Church of Washington. "I took classes in the divinity school and law school," she said. "I was on staff at my dad's church. My grandfather introduced me in my first sermon as a woman after God's own heart."

Besides pastoring, Wilson has written six devotional books, including one she wrote while doing mission work in South Africa. The sixth book, "Remembering Your Purpose," was written for women and will be published in April.

Wilson would like to combine her ministry and law career by eventually opening a home, called "Sisters," for women who are battered and need spiritual counseling. She said the home would also provide drug counseling and legal assistance. "I hope it is (in Paducah)," she said. "I'm praying it will be here. Things have really grown in the time we've been here. The first Sunday we came you could pick your seat. (Last Sunday) there was a packed house."
