Meetings And Hopefully Helpful Humor
By Reggie Robarts

You already know the dates of the meeting this spring with Ralph Walker. We hope you have your calendars marked (now that you have the 2007 model). It would be a good time to start thinking about people you would like to invite. Make a list if you are considering several and begin to mention it to them. The elders have not picked out the subjects that will be presented yet but hopefully will get that done in the next couple of weeks. The meeting will commence on Thursday March 8 thru Sunday March 11. There will probably be two services on Saturday the 10th. Let’s use this as an opportunity, not only for our own edification, but as an opportunity for opening doors for future studies with those we invite to come.

Our fall meeting is with David Thomley and no dates are set for that yet. He has asked that we not finalize anything until an overseas trip in completed. We have several people in mind for the spring of 2008 but no commitments at this time. In the fall of 2008 we will have Curtis Pope, formerly a bible professor at Florida College, but now preaching in Houston, Tx. If you have never heard him you will have a treat in store.

This is as far out as our plans go at the present time. We are trying to have these men speak on topics that are timely and relevant to us here at Eastland. We will pass on other information when it becomes available and confirmed.

Here are two, of many things, that I ran across while riffling through one of my file folders the other day. You may have seen them in the past but if you have it won’t do you any harm to read them again.

The first one was given to me by our former member, Florence McMullin, in June of 1998.

He was just a little lad, and on the week’s first day,
He was wandering home from Sunday School, and dawdling on the way.

He scuffed his shoes into the grass; he found a caterpillar;
He found a fluffy milkweed pod, and blew out all the “filler.”

A bird’s nest in a tree o’er head so wisely placed on high,
Was just another wonder that caught his eager eye.

A neighbor watched his zigzag course, and hailed from the lawn;
Asked him where he had been that day, and what was going on.

“I’ve been to bible school,” he said, and turned a piece of sod.
He picked up a wiggly worm and said, “I’ve learned a lot of God.”

“M’m a very fine way,” the neighbor said, “for a boy to spend his time.”
“If you will tell me where God is, I’ll give you a brand new dime.”

Quick as a flash his answer came! Nor were his accents faint.
“I’ll give you a dollar, Mister, if you tell me where He ain’t.”

The second one came from a friend in Florida:

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s ark.

  1. Don’t miss the boat.
  2. Remember we are all in the same boat.
  3. Plan ahead; it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
  4. Stay fit; when you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
  5. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  6. Build your future on high ground.
  7. For safety’s sake travel in pairs.
  8. Speed isn’t always an advantage; snails were on board with the cheetahs.
  9. When you are stressed, float awhile.
  10. Remember the ark was built by an amateur; the Titanic by professionals.
  11. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

 Remember, we’re going to make this the best year ever at Eastland!
