One Sunday morning in 1958, the families of Jack Reeb and Robert Simpson met at the Reeb residence for worship and Robert preached the gospel. Total attendance was 12. After meeting at the Reeb residence for about a year, they began meeting at the Simpson residence. To provide a more convenient location, this group rented Hikes Graded School on Bardstown Road in Buechel, Kentucky. Worship services were at 2:30 each Sunday afternoon and various local preachers preached for the congregation. By this time attendance had increased to 21.
On July 16th, 1962, the church purchased a two story house at 5017 Bardstown Road. The front rooms were remodeled to form one large meeting room. Rooms in the back of the house, upstairs, and in the basement were used for Bible study classes. After moving to this location, the church became known as Eastland Church of Christ. During September 1962, Don Gabhart, Rapheal Morris, Reggie Robarts, and Robert Simpson were preaching at worship services. Reggie continued to preach for the congregation from 1962 until 1964 and attendance was up to 50.
In June 1964, Robert Welch began preaching for the congregation and continued until 1971. A new building was completed in January 1969. At a business meeting in March 1970, the appointment of elders and deacons was discussed. Jack Reeb, Albert Shearer and James Walker were considered qualified to serve as elders. Earl Coulter, Don Gabhart and Duke George were considered qualified to serve as deacons. The congregation appointed these men as the first elders and deacons to serve the Eastland church.
Once again, Reggie Robarts preached for the congregation from 1971 until 1976. In the 1973 membership directory were 29 families.
Mike Grushon began preaching for the church in 1976 and continued until 1978. Listed in the 1978 directory were 44 families.
In the fall of 1978, John Humphries began as evangelist and continued until 1985. On Sunday morning, April 15th, 1979, 120 were present for worship which set a new record. Soon thereafter, men of the church remodeled the old building to provide additional classrooms and an office for the preacher.
During the first half of 1985, Connie Adams preached for the church until selection of a full-time evangelist could be made. On July 14th, 1985, Ken Weliever began as evangelist for the church and continued until 1991. By January 1987, attendance had increased and additional facilities were needed. Men of the church enclosed the side porch of the old building to provide two additional classrooms and parking facilities were needed. On October 25th, 1989, 6.3 acres were purchased for the construction of a nnew church facility.
Chuck Durham began preaching for the church on October 6th, 1991 and continued until March 17th, 1996. On March 1st, 1994, a contract was signed to build a new church facility. On Sunday, July 2nd, 1995, the church began meeting at 4909 Bardstown Road.
On June 2nd, 1996, Reggie Robarts again began preaching for the congregation and on August 2nd, 1998, Jason Longstreth was brought in to assist with the preaching. The congregation has continued to grow. Eastland now has 4 elders and 9 deacons. In the latest directory (February 2000), there are 90 families listed.
In 2003 Cloyce Sutton began preaching for the congregation. Reggie Robarts continues to alternate Sundays with Cloyce.
