““And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Greetings in Christ,
For years now I have contended that the Cumberland Presbyterian Church is the best kept secret in Owensboro. If you look at the recent attendance numbers, it appears the secret may be leaking out.
For the month of September attendance for Morning Worship has averaged right at 135, with a high attendance of 153. Last Sunday alone I was introduced to 9 first time visitors. That’s pretty exciting!
In the month of October we have several opportunities to continue the excitement. On Wednesday, October 2nd we will host a free “Pumpkin Patch.” The idea is to share the love of Jesus with our surrounding community. There will be snacks, games, pumpkin painting and more. Come share the fun… and bring a guest!
On Sunday, October 20th we will celebrate our annual Church picnic. Morning worship will feature Marc and Jessie’s new group, “Restore.” Get the word out, and let’s fill up the sanctuary. This will be Restore’s first worship service in their home church, and a great opportunity to share our worship services with those in need of a church home.
Following morning worship we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for an old fashion pot-luck celebration. The guys of the church will be grilling, so don’t worry about the meat. We are asking you to bring your favorite dish (salad, vegetable, or desert). Remember to bring a lot. It is my prayer that we will feed more than 200 people that day. How’s that for getting the secret out?
Following lunch, stick around for the fellowship. I understand there will be giant inflatables for the kids, and maybe even a few surprises just for fun!
And finally, mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 30th. No Bible Study this evening, just our All Saint’s Eve celebration. Kids are encouraged to dress up as your favorite Bible character… and be prepared to tell your story. Now that ought to be fun!
Looking for reasons to share Jesus with others? Jesus alone is reason enough. Looking for opportunities to share your church? The love of Jesus lived out is opportunity enough… but special events can still be fun!
Together in His service,

RECYCLE FOR A PICNIC TABLE
Recycle for a Picnic Table, want to help rid the world of all the lids that are thrown into the trash every day? Want to help recycle a product that can be made into something useful and made from recycled products? We’re starting a new project here at church that will only require you to “look around, take any lid off of any sort of product, bring it to church” and we’ll soon have a brand new recycled picnic table to be enjoy by everyone. This is a simple project that everyone in the church can be involved in without spending any money ( now that’s a deal for sure!!! ) We’re going to start collecting any sort of lid off of any sort of product to be recycled into a picnic table that can be used outside. The picnic table is made from the lids that are recycled, melted down, & molded into a picnic table 1000lbs. of lidsare needed to have the picnic table made. We also have to pay a fee for the meltdown and assembly, but a small price to pay for a recycled picnic table. Any type of lid can be brought in off of any type of product. Examples of lids are: shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, deodorant, medicine, butter, ketchup, soft drinks, water, juice, milk, any take out drink lid, spices, 5 gal. lids of products in bulk, and the list just keeps on going. Everywhere you look, there are lids that are begging for you to “take them off and recycle them”. Get a bag, box or drawer and pitch the lids in till it’s full, bring to church and we’ll store them till we get enough to take a load to Evansville. Every lid helps, so get all your friends and family involved in this “recycling project”. This will be a long term project that we hope everyone will help “pitch in, recycle and enjoy” as a church. Many schools are doing this project and have already gotten benches, just this school year. Sooo, look around and start saving those lids for a picnic table for our church. There will be pictures up around the church of types of lids to be saved and the containers will be placed in different areas so you can “recycle those lids”. ABC Bench Pictures.doc
