"Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs’” (Matthew 19:14 NRSV).

Greetings in Christ,

It is time once again to start thinking Church Camp. Applications for campers, pre-campers and volunteers are now available in the church office. We encourage everyone to get their application now and return it a.s.a.p. Our deadlines do have a tendency to sneak up on us.

I know there are many questions out there concerning our camping ministry. I will try to answer many of them with this correspondence. If you still have questions after reading this “Pastor’s Pen,” please call the church office.

Let’s start with Junior Camp… Junior Camp starts on Monday, June 11th and ends Saturday, June 16th! Again this year we will be returning to Camp Nikao, located just outside Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Our theme this year is “Got Spirit?”  Bro Tim will be accompanying our junior campers, and our own Stefanie Skimehorn is serving as our 2012 Junior Camp Director. (Way to go Stef!) We will departing from our church around 11:00 a.m. on Monday and expecting to return around lunch on Saturday. All junior camp applications must be completed and returned to the church office no later than Monday, May 21st!

Now Senior Camp… Senior Camp starts Monday, June 25th and ends Saturday, June 30th. The senior theme this year is “Red Letter,” and will focus on the very words of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. Marc Ray will be responsible for our senior campers throughout the week. Again we will be departing from our church Monday morning around 11:00 a.m. and expecting them to return after lunch on Saturday. Senior camp will again be at the Lions Camp Crescendo, located in Lebanon Junction. All Senior Camp applications must be completed and returned to the church office no later than Monday, June 4th!

Campers are grouped as follows: Junior Camp, ages 9 to 13. Senior Camp, ages 13-18. Notice campers who are 13 can attend either camp, but not both! Pre-campers are campers under the age of 9, whose parent/parents are working as a camp volunteer for that week. Camp fees remain unchanged this year at $125.00 per camper. This is a ministry expense that we as a church try to meet each year. Still we encourage our youth to actively participate in fund raisers… and of course we welcome any and all donations to help ensure that every child/youth in our church family does not miss this opportunity to spend a week filled with Praise & Worship, solid Biblical instruction, and relationship building opportunities with other Christian youth… and more importantly with the risen Lord!

Campers please remember as you are packing, NO CELL PHONES! Parents if you need to reach your camper for any reason you will be provided with Marc’s cell number (for seniors) or mine (for juniors). And, as always if any camper feels the need to call home, a phone will be made available to them.

Finally we are asking everyone to start praying now for this year’s camp. Pray for the campers… the teachers… the chaperones… the spiritual leaders. As God’s Holy Spirit moves, we are praying these to be two weeks filled with spiritual awakenings for all who attend!

Together in His service,

Bro. Tim

RECYCLE FOR A PRAYER BENCH

Recycle for a Prayer Bench, want to help rid the world of all the lids that are thrown into the trash every day?  Want to help recycle a product that can be made into something useful and made from recycled products?  We’re starting a new project here at church that will only require you to “look around, take any lid off of any sort of product, bring it to church” and we’ll soon have a brand new recycled bench to be enjoy by everyone.  This is a simple project that everyone in the church can be involved in without spending any money ( now that’s a deal for sure!!! )  We’re going to start collecting any sort of lid off of any sort of product to be recycled into a bench that can be used outside.  The bench is made from the lids that are recycled, melted down, molded and made into a 6’ green bench with black legs.  We only need 400lbs. of lids to have a bench made.  We also have to pay a fee for the meltdown and assembly, but a small price to pay for a recycled bench.  Any type of lid can be brought in off of any type of product.  Examples of lids are: shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, deodorant, medicine, butter, ketchup, soft drinks, water, juice, milk, any take out drink lid, spices, 5 gal. lids of products in bulk, and the list just keeps on going.  Everywhere you look, there are lids that are begging for you to “take them off and recycle them”.   Get a bag, box or drawer and pitch the lids in till it’s full, bring to church and we’ll store them till we get enough to take a load to Evansville.  Every lid helps, so get all your friends and family involved in this “recycling project”. This will be a long term project that we hope everyone will help “pitch in, recycle and enjoy” as a church.  Many schools are doing this project and have already gotten benches, just this school year.  Sooo, look around and start saving those lids for a bench for our church.  There will be pictures up around the church of types of lids to be saved and the containers will be placed in different areas so you can “recycle those lids”.
