Quadrennial Theme: The Essential Church: Poised For 21st Century Ministry
The Children’s Ministry
Our Children’s Ministry is The Temple’s effort to help each & every preteen and child grow personally & spiritually. One purpose is to prepare students for effective ministry to middle school, elementary and preschool students and their families. Our intent is to train the children with a foundation to lead the cause of Christ, and apply Christianity to every area of life.
Please join our effort of the Christian community to reach out to the children with the love of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. We offer a healthy, spiritual atmosphere that allows each child to form deep relationships with each other and eventually an eternal relationship with Jesus. The Children’s ministry will facilitate each child’s growth in his/her relationship with Jesus Christ and the knowledge of His Word and prepare each child to discover his/her uniqueness, individual gifts, and eventually God’s mission for their life.
We will prepare each child to share the love of Christ with their family, friends, neighbors, and the world through their attitudes, actions, and words.
The Children’s Ministry affords the children of The Temple an opportunity to participate in Sunday Morning Worship Service through its various ministries, such as Acolytes, Children’s Choir, and the Rossie T. Hollis of the Women’s Missionary Society. Additionally, other ministries provided our children are Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, The children also participate in special activities such as the Annual Easter Program, Black History Month, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and the Christmas Program.
The role of an Acolyte is one of distinction and service. Members light the candles on the alter and assist the pastor during the First Sunday morning worship service. The Director of the Acolytes is Mrs. Margaret Hudson.
The Children’s Choir, under the direction of Brother Fred E. Johnson allows children ages 5 – 12 to express their praises to God through song. The choir rehearses on Saturday before the 2nd and 3rd Sunday’s and sings each Third Sunday of the month.
The Director of Children’s Work is Kimberly Capers. She is assisted by Sisters Shirley Kelly, Veronica Tolliver, Betty Glass and Helen Rhynes.
Our Youth Ministry is our church's effort to help each & every young person grow personally & spiritually. One purpose is to prepare students for effective ministry to middle high, senior high, or college students and their families. Our intent is to train young people to lead the cause of Christ, and apply Christianity to every area of life. Our Youth ministry is more than programs and events.
Please join our effort of the Christian community to reach out to the youth with the love of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is one vehicle for both junior high and high school students to grow as individuals while exploring ideas, values, and faith within the context of a supportive community of peers and adults.
Because we love our youth, this church-wide ministry strives to provide a variety of opportunities and experiences to draw teens into active, responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community and the greater church. This program of love is designed to help spiritually train and equip teens in a fun and Godly atmosphere to the Glory of God.
Also as an umbrella focus which oversees the systematic attention our community gives to young people which enables them to reach their full God created potential. That is, everything the Christian community is involved in that promotes both healthy development and faith growth in adolescents. We work to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and seek to draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Christian community.
Our Youth Ministry seeks to help youth share their gifts, grow in life skills, develop a positive self-image, overcome prejudices, develop respect for differences, serve those in need, and foster social change, participate in the sacraments, develop a personal spirituality and prayer life, apply Christianity to daily life, integrate Christian values, participate in the Church, and develop a personal relationship with Jesus.
The Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF)
CYF is designed to promote Christian faith and growth, outreach and witness, fellowship and stewardship for youth ages 12-18. The CYF offers opportunities for young people to meet together and use their time and talent in positive ways. The organization seeks to assist youth in coping with stresses they face in today's society and empowers them to become Christian leaders. Some activities in which CYF members participate include workshops (which address issues of concern to them), field trips, and fundraisers. CYF members also attend and participate in district and annual conference events.
The Christian Youth Fellowship meets monthly, on the 2nd Saturday at 1:00 PM. in Thomas Hall of the church. All youth between the ages of 12-18 are invited and strongly encouraged to become members of the CYF. Mrs. Saundra Roberson is the Youth Director. She is assisted by Sisters Sheila Coleman and Shayla Hall Cooper.
Along with the CYF, the youth participate in the Ministry of Music, thru the Youth for Christ Choir, on the Third Sunday’s.
The Praise Dance Ministry is directed by Sister Shayla Hall Cooper with assistance from Sister Saundra Roberson. This ministry is dedicated to the praise of God thru dance.
The CYF Shield
The CYF Shield represents the total function of the Christian Youth Fellowship. The cross in the center lifts up the fact that all CYF activities should be centered around Christ, and that the spirit of Christ should prevail in all things. It represents the word "Christian."
The word "Youth" is represented by two hands at the right of the cross holding an hourglass, which is symbolic of youth dedicating to Christ their time and their talents. The hands at the left of the cross, holding the offering try, is symbolic of youth dedicating a portion of their material possessions to the cause for which Christ died.
The word "Fellowship" is represented by two hands clasped in friendship above the cross, symbolizing the highest type of love and fellowship which is born of Christ and perpetuated by loyalty to Him.
CYF Pledge of Loyalty
We pledge loyalty to our Church, and to the Master's Kingdom that it helps build;
We love and honor its long history, and are proud of its noble work;
We will be loyal to its program; we will support its effort with our offerings;
We will join with others in its activities; we pledge to continue its work, That it may carry Christ's message to this community and throughout the world.
Christian Youth Fellowship Creed
Teach me eternal, how thine orders run,
and I will follow them step by step;
Instruct me how to carry out thy law,
and with my whole heart I will keep it;
Lead me along in thine obedience,
for this is my joy;
incline my heart to thy behest,
and to no love of gain;
make me alive to follow thee,
and turn mine eyes from craving vain;
Fulfill thy promise to thy servant,
to advance thy faith;
Remove thy insults that I dread,
and intervene for good;
As thy art true, revive me;
I am yearning for thy will.
Rise Up O Youth for Christ
Words by C.D. Coleman
The words of this hymn set to the music of
"Rise Up O Men of God"
Rise up O youth for Christ,
The day for you has dawned.
Join in the fight for truth and right
Till Victory is won.
Rise up O youth for Christ,
The task for you doth wait.
Join hands with Him, the King of Kings
And make the conquest great.
Rise up O youth for Christ,
Be valiant, brave, and strong;
Defend His cause with all your might
And end the reign of wrong.
Go forth O youth for Christ,
Be quick to heed His call:
Bear tidings of His wondrous love
Proclaim Him Lord of all.
