ST. DAVID'S CHOIR

Music Director Christopher Babcock

CHRISTOPHER BABCOCK
Director of Music

Christopher Babcock hs been the music director at St. David’s Church since May, 2007.  Chris grew up in a town of less than a hundred people in central New York State. After graduating from Boston University, he earned a degree from Trinity College of Music in London and studied with organist Peter Hurford at St. Alban's Cathedral. For close to twenty years he led the music at two world famous New York City parishes: the Church of the Holy Family near the United Nations and then the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Times Square. Active in the American Guild of Organists in many capacities, he chaired and performed in the Centennial Convention in New York in 1996. He is currently on the Board of the New York City Chapter and serves on the National Development Committee. He is a recent past Chair of Region I of the Association of Anglican Musicians. In 1993, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II bestowed upon him the grade of Knight in the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Barnstable Land Trust and the Centerville Historical Museum. He has recorded for the Corinthian, B&V, and Ethereal labels.

Chris will continue to serve as summer organist at St. Andrew's by the Sea in Hyannis Port.
During the summer months our own Grace McGill and other organists fill in at the console.

MUSIC REPORT
for the 2011 Calendar Year

Throughout the year the additions to the organ completed by the Walker Technical Company for Christmas in 2010 added greatly to our musical life. These new voices make choral accompaniment more effective, performance of organ literature more exciting and congregational singing better supported, especially on occasions when most of those present are guests not familiar with the hymns. The Choir took a two week break in February and another Easter Week. Our own Grace McGill and other members of the Cape Cod & the Islands Chapter of the American Guild of Organists played the Sunday services from June through the first in September. We are fortunate to have their talents to call upon. Kate Hansen (trumpet) and Robin Hendrich (flute) contributed a great deal to a number of our festival celebrations. The Choir depended on one and occasionally two professional singers. Chris Tufts (baritone), was especially helpful and reliable. Funding was generously provided by a small number of parishioners and friends. A few members of the choir were extraordinarily dedicated achieving near perfect attendance. The installation of air conditioning was a wonderful gift in the Fall. It will help greatly with the maintenance of the organ and provide for the general comfort of those both attending and leading our worship!

We have a beautiful Roche Pipe organ of 26 ranks which was installed in 1993.
In 2010 eleven digital ranks provided by the Walker Technical Company were added bringing the total to 37
