WELCOME TO ST. DAVID'S CHURCH

Our History

St. David's Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth began on January 23, 1966 with forty Episcopalians attending  church services in the basement of the Yarmouth Town Hall.  Over the next four years we purchased land and built
our present church, which was dedicated on January 12, 1970.

During our evolution from a mission to a full-time parish, the laity assumed the responsibility of the day-to-day operations.  Lay ministry continues to be a key element in the operation of St. David's.

A major focus at St. David's has been to assist others in need beyond the parish.  St. David's is actively engaged in programs providing housing and serving the homeless on Cape Cod.  In 1976 we built an addition to house an independently operated community nursery school.  In 2003, we dedicated Nelson Hall, a multi-purpose facility with a kitchen.

The missionary vigor of St. David's remains as strong as it was when that group of forty people first came together.  People still come to St. David's to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, which challenges us to go out into the world to help others as He would have us do.

ST. DAVID'S WELCOME STATEMENT
A warm welcome to all visitors and newcomers.  We, the people of St. David's, believe that God's love is expansive and unconditional and that through Christ, God has called us to love one another as God loves us. We welcome all people regardless of gender, race, age, culture, ethnic background, sexual orientation, economic circumstances, family configuration or difference of ability. We celebrate the worth, dignity and gifts of every person as a child of God.

Our Location

St. David*s is located in the historic district of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on the beautiful peninsula of  Cape Cod.  South Yarmouth is a diverse community of retirees, year-round families and vacationers in the mid- Cape area with nearby ocean beaches, golf courses, bike trails, restaurants, shops and schools.  Our parishioners  come from Yarmouth and many surrounding towns.

Our Goals

*          We will be a praying, learning Christ centered community with a variety of forums for personal transformation, including corporate and individual spiritual growth, intercessory prayer, education for all ages and commitment to outreach.

*          We will be a congregation that actively supports its members in time of need, whether physical, economic or spiritual.

*         We will find ways to involve the entire parish family in the membership growth of our congregation. We will encourage our youth to participate more fully in church as we continue our  outreach to the greater community.

*         We will find ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our parish communications.

*          In order to attain financial well being and continue our generous outreach, we will develop a strong stewardship education program leading the majority of the parish to committed, faithful, proportional giving.

Our New Rector

We envision our new rector to have the following gifts:

*    Has a proven ability with and a passion for outreach;.

*     Is an effective communicator;

*     Has a demonstrated track record of parish growth;

*     Has a passion for pastoral care and is compassionate, caring and sensitive to parish needs;

*     Is a ministry  *developer* not a ministry *deliverer,*  works collaboratively, is a preacher/teacher rather than a lecturer, and is a *head coach.*
