03/03/07 – Annual Meeting for FY 2006

The Annual Meeting of Saint Nicholas Ministries, Inc. to close out Fiscal Year 2006 was held on March 3, 2007.

2006 Report by the Pastor

The Mission Parish of Saint Nicholas of Myra—AKA Saint Nicholas Mission—serving the greater Boston area of Massachusetts, gives thanks and praise to God for the following ministry we were allowed to do during the calendar year 2006.

We met for Holy Eucharist 67 times with an average attendance of 16. These figures include our Summer Union Services with a local mainline parish, but only those services at which Father David served as celebrant.

We conducted 4 Healing Services with an average attendance of 29. The Sacrament of Holy Unction is also administered after Mass on a designated weekend each month as well as upon request …

We co-officiated at 6 Funerals with an average attendance of 81.

We made 32 Pastoral Calls ministering to 90 souls. The largest of these was a pastoral visit for “last rites” where a family of 14 was keeping vigil by their loved one’s bed side. Note: We voted early on in our existence as a parish NOT to keep a tally of “Communions” or “Confessions.”

We had neither Baptisms nor Weddings in the parish this year.

We are especially grateful for our Adult Religious Education Program:

The Tuesday Night Study Group met 30 times with an average attendance of 7. This group has been meeting for over seven years and has discussed a wide variety of topics. This year we are discussing “Religious Education and Parish Life” in reference to the themes of didache (teaching and learning), koinonia (community and communion), kerygma (proclaiming the word of God), diakonia (service and outreach), and leiturgia (worship and prayer) as presented in the late Maria Harris’ Fashion Me a People: Curriculum in the Church [Louisville, KY: Westminster/John Knox Press, 1989].

The Saturday Study Group met 22 times with an average attendance of 4. This group began meeting in September 2005. This year we are in Bible Study mode and are working our way through the Book of Job.

Our Livingwiththequestions.com web site had over 900 “hits” from mid-September [when we first installed our “hit counter”]. On this site we post daily reflections, meditations, and other resources to enhance, challenge and inform the spiritual journey.

The Wednesday Night Faith Sharing Group has been a wonderful time of sharing in an intimate space. It has been a small gathering of 2 - 4, usually 3, but it is rich and has been a safe space in which we can freely wrestle with the scriptures.

Respectfully submitted,

Rev. David Dismas, pastor
