Adult Education Opportunities

ADULT CLASSES OFFERED

Despite only having one pastor right now, we want to continue offering multiple opportunities in adult education.  The leadership of Cindy Fiscus and Pam Parker makes that possible with their leadership of the Book Study.  Here fiction or non-fiction is read and discussed from our perspective as Christians.

Also, the Rev. Ted Walker will resurrect our Lectionary Bible Study on Thursday mornings, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., October 23 through December 18.  Here we take the texts to be preached the following Sunday and study them in advance to expand our understanding of Scripture and deepen our experience in Sunday morning worship.  Dale will be present to assist Ted in study so long as his pastoral duties don’t take him away.

Lastly, Dale and Cindy, together, offer a 7:00 p.m. Thursday series The Beatitudes in Film.  Here we hope to reach those who cannot attend classes during the day. The idea is to take a more visual approach to the familiar Beatitudes by pairing each Beatitude with a film to interpret it.  Cindy will show the “movie of the week” the preceding Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in our new lower level Multi-Purpose room, also making available a bite to eat. Watching the film in advance is your only “homework”.  If you prefer to rent it as a video and watch it at home, that is fine as well. Seeing the film in advance prepares us for the Thursday evening class. 
Dale will begin with a brief interpretation of the Beatitude.  Then we will watch snippets from the film, pausing to discuss how the plot and characters intersect what Jesus was getting at.  Thus, the ancient and the contemporary intersect.  Here is the schedule of the Beatitudes and movies.  This should be a lot of fun!

TIME TO START READING FOR BOOK GROUP

Book Group resumes its monthly reading schedule on Monday evenings.
