“WHAT DENNIS UNION CHURCH MEANS TO ME”
Before I moved to Dennis two years ago, I was a frequent visitor to the Cape. I just love Cape Cod and cherished vacationing in this very special place. When in town, I would attend services at Dennis Union. I chose DUC at first because it seemed to me – a New Jersey girl – the quintessential New England church with its white facade and tall steeple. And I always felt comfortable and welcomed by the greeters and the members during coffee hour. Two years ago I made some significant changes in my life – including moving to the Cape. There was no doubt in my mind that I would join DUC and make it my new Church home.
When I moved here, I didn’t know anyone and often felt a bit lonely. I longed to discover where I would belong and “my new path”. Sunday services at DUC became so important to me. They were a chance to worship God and, for a few hours, to be surrounded by new friends. I remember especially enjoying it when we would sing “Go in Love” at the end of the service. The words in the last stanza really gripped me, “Go in Love, face each day, God will lead you. He will show the way”. They comforted me and empowered me to embrace the new week ahead…whatever it would bring. Now, two years later, I feel at home here on the Cape and at DUC. I enjoy being a member of the Social Concerns Committee. What a privilege it is to work side by side with the incredible folks on our committee as we provide support and fellowship to our homeless guests and adopted foster family. It is so rewarding. I also love our monthly Taize services – Connie and Bette Anne do such a wonderful job making them so beautiful and deeply spiritual. I encourage you to attend one if you haven’t. We have so many extraordinary people here at DUC. I feel so honored to be a member – to meet all of you – and in this very special place having the privilege of worshipping God and serving God’s people. -Val Baumann
