September 11,2002 A Vision For The Community: Stoneham Remembers Our vision is that September 11th be a day of reflection and resolve; a day filled with neighbors and friends making their way to the Town Common: to walk a labyrinth in meditation, to worship or pray or just remember; a day when we can seek healing for ourselves and others; a day when the symbolism of 3000 empty shoes is poignant beyond words, when art, tears, music and silence are all blended in reverent respect.
Provide a place to be with people in quiet reflection; Build community and share a sense of hope; Deepen our sense of connectedness to all humanity; A labyrinth on the Common for those seeking the presence of a healing God.
Honor the courage of firemen and rescue workers; Mourn the loss of those who died in the crashes; Remember the families whose lives are shattered; Be sensitive to the pain of students and teachers; In morning worship we celebrate the lives and sacrifices of fallen heros and friends.
Face the fears of ongoing danger around us; Acknowledge our sadness at the evil in the world; Affirm our national values to be compassionate and just; Find moments of grace and healing in rituals of faith; Our clergy and our community gather around the shared symbols of our faith.
