Nurture Sunday 2008

Walls of the Sanctuary had dispays from every Sunday School Class. The processional song, “For the Beauty of The Earth” certainly described the day...it was sunny and beautiful. Our Pastor, on behalf of the Christian Nurture Board, thanked all who had helped with Nurture programs this year. The Carol Choir brought smiles to our faces with three songs — “Go, Go, Tell About Jesus,” “Clap Your Hands,” and “Hallelu—Praise Ye the Lord.” Many folks wore their baseball caps and t-shirts, all ready to batter up for our first Bible Baseball event, led by Designated Pitcher, Pastor Jamie Howard; Manager Julie Braschler; Commissioner Peter Gerrish, and Umpire Dick Axtell. The congregation was divided into two teams. Each team had a brightly colored pennant that was passed from person to person as questions were “pitched.” Those holding the pennants could confer with others on their side for the correct answer. (Those preferring not to answer could pass the pennant on to someone else.) We could even use the Bible to research the answers!! Children were designated hitters, taking turns spinning the dial to determine what level the question would be (single, double, home run, etc.). The Umpire watched to see which pennant holder was first to raise his/her pennant after the question was pitched. Other youth kept tabs on the score that they kept posted for all to see. Minister of Music Loryne Koebele played appropriate “baseball” music, including “Charge!” ...and stopped us at the 7th Inning Stretch so we all could sing “God Bless America.” What fun it was! (No peanuts, popcorn, or hotdogs though!)
And of course, we ended the day with carnations and ice cream sundaes for all! And Sunday School Youth were given a flower to take home and plant. These photos give a glimpse of the day.
