Well, everything was set on the morning of the 2008 Rummage Sale. The signs were posted throughout the town with their balloons attached. Food was being prepared in the kitchen for both breakfast and lunch for the staff. And then it SNOWED!
Well after all it is still March, but the crowd outside was defiant, I hate it when they get like that! (just kidding)
At 9:00 a.m. the doors were opened and it seemed like the whole of Bedford tried to squeeze into Lower and Upper Fellowship Halls. The buying was contagious and bags were being filled and even by 11:00 a.m. it seemed like the piles of rummage were beginning to thin out. The volunteer staff were drawn to the kitchen by the delightful breakfast that had been provided by Kathy Harris and Terry Gerrish, Amanda and Charlotte Harris. Later on a delicious lunch was also provided, consisting of chicken and pasta. This was a great time of fellowship for the workers and many recalled how nice it was just to sit and relax and enjoy the good food.
But as every good ending is the result of good planning (co-chairs) Clayton Boyce* and myself would like to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers that really made this all happen. Thanks to all that helped during the week to sort through and organize the rummage in upper and lower fellowship halls, including the jewelry downstairs and the select items on the stage. Thanks also to those that took leadership for those areas and recruited the staff, helpers, baggers and cashiers. Also, a special treat during the week on Thursday evening as the Women’s Fellowship helped to price items a delicious Stuffed Potato meal was provided for all the volunteers.
At the end of the day the clean up crew made short work of boxing up all remaining items that were then loaded onto the Child Quest truck outside.
And the results of all this good work………….Total $ 3,810.00 (Rummage Sale:
$ 3,619.00; Elizabeth Stone House: $ 191.00)
*Editor’s Note: Clayton Boyce says he was the assistant and not a co-chair, but Tony considers him co-chair because he assisted for many, many hours and days!
