Cabinet Minutes-Highlights

Highlights from last Cabinet Meeting

Reverend Waters talked to us about an article she had emailed members. She also passed around some rating sheets for us to consider and fill out. There will be an all-church meeting (including lunch) on January 23rd to discuss similar information.

The Assistant Treasurer mentioned that our Special Funds need to be evaluated and possibly condensed. Boards need to start thinking about the budget for next year and are to submit preliminary figures at the March Cabinet meeting. Cabinet voted to spend $3,400 of the fair proceeds for computer upgrades. About $700 or $800 of that amount is left. The rest has already been used.

Investments: Ken Hall reported that our investment funds are performing as expected. He did suggest that Parnassus should be reviewed. Overall we are doing well.

Christian Nurture reported that attendance was good at bell ringers tonight. Nurture is reviewing Safe Church Policies and Procedures. They are considering changing the policy on publishing photos on the web—to one which photographs will be published unless they have a written request not to. The Pageant and Advent workshop went well. February 27th will be a youth-led worship. The Senior High Youth Group will be going on a mission trip in February. To raise money they will have a Dippin’ for Dollars fundraiser on January 21st. Middle School Youth are planning a day trip. Wonderful Wednesday is on January 19th and Women’s Fellowship on January 25th.

Deacons reported that they have authorized the use of memorial funds up to $5,000 to help pay for the chair lift to Upper Fellowship Hall. They have written a letter to Miss Koebele offering her the position of Minister of Music Emeritus and to name the Music Room in her honor complete with a plaque. She could direct the choir on one Sunday a year. This would also include ten hours of office use and resources. It was voted to authorize the mailing of this letter.

The Deacons also discussed holiday procedures. They would like to have another committee take over the supervision of outside decorations and the living Crèche. The Decorations Committee will add the outside decorations to their duties. Cabinet recommended that they revisit and discuss the living Crèche during the summer and early fall.

The March 20th service will be a dramatic presentation of the book of Mark. The Sunday, January 16th service will be a sacred conversation of race in Upper Fellowship Hall. After a short service we will break up into discussion groups. The last Sunday of January will be the reception of new members. The Deacons are planning Lent and Easter. It was suggested that the cross we had at the entrance to the fellowship building be moved to the front of the church this year.

The Outreach Board reported that the Mitten Tree is up. There will be an indoor Habitat Build Day on January 22nd. Our church will also hold a Bridge and Texas Hold ’Em Tournament to raise funds for Habitat.

Rick Burke is organizing this event. There was also good response to the request for Jackets, mittens, and etc. for the children of Chelsea.

Stewardship reported that the inside painting of the Manse is nearly done. The Granite Manse steps will be repaired in the spring. They are in the process of getting the necessary permits for the chair lift. Another spring project will be replacing and/or repairing gutters. The fire suppression system is not up to code in the kitchen. Sanctuary rugs or rehab needs a subcommittee. Rev. Waters suggested this might be part of our visioning process. The heat pump is being repaired.

Reverend Waters suggested discussions about possible future mission projects for the Gulf Mission Team.

On Monday, January 31st Russ Goliger will be coming to teach how to use Planning Center on Line.

She reminded all to be careful about where we leave purses and wallets.

Also be very careful to make certain that doors are locked and lights are out when the last person leaves the church.
