PRAYER/HEALING SHAWL DIRECTIONS

Supplies

3 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun yarn (This is available at Wal-Mart, A.C.Moore’s, Michael’s Craft Stores, Joanne Fabric & Craft Stores) and size 11 or 13 needles. Some knitters prefer the round needles and some like size 15 although they can be hard to hold. The idea is to get a loose comfortable weave and to use needles that are comfortable for you.

Pattern # 1

Cast on 54, 57, 60, or 63 stitches

Row 1: Knit 3 stitches, Purl 3 stitches. Repeat to end of row

Row 2: Knit the purl stitches, purl the knit stitches

Repeat these 2 rows for the length of the shawl

If you cast on 57 or 63 stitches you will start every row with knit 3

Knit up 2 skeins of yarn

Before you start the third skein make fringe by wrapping yarn around a 7 to 9 inch piece of cardboard about 80 times. Tie the middle of the yarn on each side of the cardboard so when you cut the 2 ends of the yarn all the fringe for one end and all the fringe for the other end will be tied together. (You will have two groups of yarn each tied in the middle.) Knit up the remaining yarn, bind off the stitches and add fringe to ends of shall. If you are worried about the fringe frizzing you can tie a knot at the end of each piece of fringe after it is attached to the shawl.

Pattern #2

(I used # 13 needles)

Cast on 54 to 57 stitches (or the number of stitches you need to make the shawl the width you want) and knit every row

Knit up 2 skeins, wrap fringe as in pattern #1

Knit up the rest of the yarn

Bind off

Add fringe
