United Church of Christ, Congregational

Boards and Committees

The Church Council is a policy and planning board which provides leadership for the church.  It is a communicative and supportive body for the activities and goals of the boards and committees.  It provides a forum for issues which do not fall within the purview of any particular group in the church.

The Stewardship and Finance Board sponsors an annual campaign challenging the entire congregation to pledge their financial support to the church.  The Board also establishes responsible investment policies to ensure the stable growth of the church's endowed funds.

The Board of Deacons oversees the spiritual life of the church and directs the worship porgram in concert with the Pastor.  The Deacons arrange special services and assist in serving communion.  They provide ministry and preaching in the absence of the Pastor.  They oversee the welfare of the members, and consider applications for membership and changes in membership status.  The Deacons evaluate the performance of the Choir Directors and Organist .

The Building and Grounds Committee is charged with the care and amangement of the church property and buildings.

The Christian Education Committee plans, builds and maintains a comprehensive program of Christian Education for both youth and adults.

The Communications Committee is responsible for coordinating all communications with the community, preparing and distributing a regular monthly newsletter describing the current activities of the church and a calendar of events for the upcoming month, and constructing and maintaining the church website.

The Fellowship Committee acts as the host of the church by promoting acquaintances and fellowship through regular coffees and suppers.

The Missions Committee leads the church in reaching out in ministry to the community at large, and to the world.  It plans and solicits support for benevolences and special offerings of the church.

The Pastor-Parish Relations Committee serves as a vehicle to promote healthy relationships between the Pastor and the congregation.  This committee conducts the annual evaluation of the Pastor's performance.

The Worship Committee coordinates lay participation in the Sunday services and special services.  Opportunities for participation include greeting, ushering, serving as lay reader and providing flowers for the altar.

The Welcome Committee assists in visitor welcome and follow-up and create and oversee a process by which visitors and new members can get "plugged in" so that they can become a part of the faith community quickly.

From time to time, ad hoc committees are formed to address specific issues such as Long-Range Planning, Building Expansion, or the search for a new Pastor.
