Redeemer Lutheran Church LCMS
Gorham, Maine
“MISSION STATEMENT”
The Constitution of Redeemer
Lutheran Church provides that its purpose is to
“Bring honor and glory to God” in a
number of ways.
1.
The proclamation of the Word of God and
administration of the sacraments according to Christ’s institution is the first
and foremost of those ways of giving God glory. In that service, it maintains a
structure in which the Divine Service is held, Christian instruction is provided
and the fellowship of the Lord is practiced.
2.
In addition, the Church exists to
exercise Christian discipline and serve the needs of all people by Christian
love.
3.
Who then are the people to be served? The
Bible holds that Christ when asked, “Who is my neighbor?” replied, “He who has
need of you.” In that instance, the people of our state, county and surrounding
communities are all our neighbors, because they all need Christian witness to
the person and deeds of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
4.
In order, then to serve our neighbors, we endeavor to know them. We have
ascertained through study and research that this state has a very high
percentage of unchurched people compared to other areas of the country. Many are
former or lapsed Catholics who might be receptive to an educational experience
based on the inculcation of values, whish society at large is unable to supply.
This church, with its biblically based traditions and practices, is uniquely
situated to serve its neighbors.
To do this we, as a
church, must always move forward in prayer and devotion, remaining open to the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is for Him we were created, live, move, and have
our being, therefore:
v
We recognized the need to
continue to expand our evangelism efforts. We will strengthen and energize our
evangelism program to attract the unchurched with the ultimate goal of
encouraging them to lead Christ centered lives.
v
We will continue to embrace the
command of the Great Commission. As a Christ centered, Bible based fellowship of
believers, this congregation will continue to follow Christ’s command to make
disciples of all nations, to go and teach and Baptize all people, in all our
work within and without our walls.
v
We will continue to seek out the
unchurched, and those who are estranged from their churches, and invite and
encourage them to come and hear the Word.
v
We will continue our efforts to
reach out to people of all ages in southern Maine, keeping in mind the potential
for planting churches in other geographic areas.
v
We will design a variety of
additional programs to attract and accommodate this population in all things not
mandated by Scripture or synodical doctrine. In all our endeavors we will keep
the Word as our central focus.
v
We will continue to provide an
educational experience based on the inculcation of values, which society at
large is unable to supply.
