Located six blocks south of Southfield Road (M-39), and one half block west of Fort Street. As a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, St. Michael's has been serving the downriver area for over 80 years!

The following information has been taken from our brochure "Visitor's Guide to St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church" to help you become familiar with who we are. We look forward to having you worship with us!
We are delighted to have you visit and worship with us, at St. Michael's. We know that worshipping in a new church may be a little intimidating, and we hope this information will help you feel, a bit more "at home", and answer any questions you might have. If we have fallen short, please feel free to ask anyone around you for assistance, so that we can make things right!
The Episcopal Church
If you are new to the community, it is our delight and pleasure to welcome you into this parish family; if you are new to the Episcopal Church, please let us know how we can further assist in helping to make you feel comfortable; or, if you are visiting from out of town, we hope that when your travels bring you back to our area, you will come back again! Whether you're visiting, curious about Christianity, or seeking a church home…at St. Michael's, you are welcome!
As you make friends here, you will experience Christianity in action! You will have the opportunity to ask questions, and you will realize that Christianity is more than a religious system of moral rules. It is a spiritual way of living, as we are called to represent Christ and his church to the world. Together, as a community, we practice our faith by praying and worshipping, proclaiming the Gospel, and promoting justice, peace, and love through our combined ministries. In this way, we grow individually and as a community, in our spiritual life and our understanding of what it means to be a Christian.
Parking: We have a parking lot in the back of the church, however, if you found this lot to be full, you are free to use the field in the back, to park on Champaign Road in the front, or park across the street in the CVS/pharmacy parking lot (but, please be careful crossing the street).
Entering the Church: As you enter the church narthex (area outside the sanctuary), ushers are distributing a bulletin, which outlines our service. If you feel comfortable in doing so, speak to one of the ushers (or any member of the parish) and let them know you are visiting. We will take good care of you, and be a good host. Of course, if prefer not to introduce yourself…we'll recognize you as a new face, and still be a good host!
Feel free to sit anywhere you feel comfortable…seating is not reserved!
In many cases, we have put the service into a booklet form, so that you will not need to flip back and forth from one book to another. If this is not the case today, the bulletin will guide you to the pages of the (red) Book of Common Prayer, and the hymns from the (blue) Hymnal 1982, or one of the other hymnals found in the pews. In either case, the congregation will be guided by the officiant, throughout the service.
For some, it is the custom to bow or genuflect upon entering or exiting one's pew, as an act of reverence and personal piety. Some will kneel in the pew, for a prayer, as a time of personal preparation for worship. Please do as you feel comfortable. It is our practice to observe 'holy silence' upon entering the nave (sanctuary). Do you stand, kneel or sit? The general rule is that we stand to sing, for the affirmations of faith (such as the Nicene Creed), and for the reading of the Gospel; we kneel to pray; and we sit for instruction. We sit during readings from the Old Testament, the psalms, or New Testament letters (epistles), and the sermon. Also, for those who are physically unable to stand or kneel, sitting is perfectly acceptable. When in doubt, just look around and do what others are doing, or do what feels comfortable for you.
Holy Eucharist (Communion): We will be celebrating Holy Eucharist, or communion. All baptized persons, including children and non-Episcopalians, who have been baptized with water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, are welcome to receive communion at God's table. The Priest and Eucharistic Ministers will offer you the consecrated bread and wine (the body and blood of Jesus Christ). You may receive the wine from a common cup, or you may have the Eucharistic Minister dip the bread in the chalice. In lieu of receiving communion, you may receive a blessing, by crossing your arms at the altar rail.
Church School: During the normal school year, St. Michael's has organized Sunday School classes for children of various age groups.
Nursery: St. Michael's conducts a nursery program for infants and toddlers during the church service, and infants/toddlers are always welcome to our church services with their parents.
Visitor's Book: Before you leave today, please sign our visitor's book, on the stand in the narthex, so that we may send a simple thank you, for visiting with us. It is our way of acknowledging your presence, and extending our invitation for you to come back again.
Coffee Hour: Sometimes referred to as "The Eighth Sacrament", coffee hour immediately follows our church service, where you are cordially invited to socialize with us, and enjoy a snack, in the fellowship hall! This is the time where you can really get to know the people of St. Michael's, and receive a "family-style" welcome.
For more information: Please ask for assistance, or contact the church office by telephoning: (313) 382-5525. Arrangements to meet with a priest, speak with a member of the church leadership (vestry), or a covenant team member, can be arranged.
St. Michael's Adult Dinner Group (SMADG) meets monthly, at local restaurants, for social fellowship. All are welcome to attend!
St. Michael's makes its facility available to a variety of self-help groups. The days and times for these meetings are posted on the window, by the back door.
If you are looking for a church home…
St. Michael's welcomes you!
