The Confirmation Program of Bethel Lutheran Church

Greenbush Minnesota

Adopted by Church Council

This will serve as an outline for the upcoming year.  Parents and youth will be notified directly when confirmation studies and events pertain to them.

Grade 5

·         Holy Communion instruction (2 sessions) will be taught by the pastor.

·         A family may decide not to allow their fifth grader to receive communion even after attending the class.  Please discuss your decision with the pastor.  The congregation will avoid stressing the ceremony of first communion so that a child who may not be ready to receive communion on the scheduled day will not be pressured to participate.

·         Families are encouraged to celebrate this occasion by inviting baptismal sponsors, grandparents, or others to share this event.

Grade 7

·         Each student is required to attend one week of Bible camp or complete an option of comparable value to be decided by student, parents, and pastor.  (i.e. helping at VBS for two years or attending youth gatherings.)

Grades 8&9

·         Confirmation classes will meet Wednesday evenings with the pastor.

·         Each student is required to attend worship services at least 25 times and complete 15 sermon notes each year.

o   Options to aid in fulfilling requirement:  Watch and take notes on video from church library.  Watch a TV worship service or listen to radio worship service and write down readings and main points, etc…  Write a book report on a book from the church library.  Attend another service and bring bulletin for attendance and take notes for sermon note completion.

o   Students may also choose to work with a preapproved mentor and complete curriculum.  Mentorship work will replace half of the sermon note requirement.

·         Each student will participate in worship services as acolyte and cross bearer.

·         Sunday school classes on Sunday mornings are also required.

·         Attending LYO and taking part in youth gatherings is also required.
