Book Club

Interested in reading and discussing books? Join us the 3rd Tuesday of every month for good books, good people, and good conversation.

Our next book is:

Knitting For Peace –

Make the World a Better Place One Stitch at a Time

A new small group is beginning to form here at Cross of Peace.  According to a study done by the Craft Yarn Council of America knitting and crocheting has seen a 150% increase in participation since 2002.  In response a knitting group is in the works to meet 2 times a month (come to one or both) to share skills, to share yarn, to share stories, to share of yourself as you knit powerful grace and justice for others through out the world.

An article recently in Sojourners magazine (Knit Local, Act Global, February, 2007) indicated “the meditative and spiritual qualities of knitting can also yield inward revolutions.  It can be healing to stitch in a corner by yourself or in a group, working with your hands to create something beautiful out of a ball of string.  For one thing, you can’t rush.  You have to slow down and focus on what’s directly in front of you—a salve for the overprocessed, overanalytical mind.”

Please see the sign-up sheets in the gathering area to indicate your interest and preferred time to gather.  This small group is for all ages and skill levels (beginner/want to learn-to-experience knitters).  The group will begin by knitting squares for afghans for the "Warm Up American!" project.  Knitters will make a difference, no matter how big or small your contribution.  Each square counts!  Please sign-up in the gathering area or call the church office, any questions can be directed to Linda McPeak in the church office.

Our first times together are scheduled for Thursday, March 29th at 10:45am, and Tuesday, April 10th at 6:30pm. Please bring size 7 knitting needles or size G crochet hook, and (optional) worsted-weight yarn. Associate editor at Sojourners, Molly Marsh, recently said that through small groups like these, “we hold needles and a ball of yarn, we also hold possibility; we can knit ourselves to each other and our wider communities in large and small ways.”
