Urban Initiative's Vision Statement

The vision of Urban Initiative is to serve North Minneapolis by equipping men, women, and youth to become productive members of our community.

The mission of Urban Initiative  is to nurture positive character traits, develop useful life skills and encourage self-discipline through:

+ NANC Certified Counseling for individuals, couples and families.

+ Youth Mentoring Programs providing academic support and resources as well as structured athletic competition.

+ Mentoring Programs with weekly addictions support group, chaplaincy to incarcerated individuals and sober housing with genuine accountability.

Urban Initiative is a 501c Non-profit Corporation wholly owned by Family Baptist Church.

What are the marks of truly effective urban ministry? I suggest there are four:

' Are the systems of a city being confronted and offered real potential for change?

* Are the poor and exploited of the city provided the vehicles by which they can bring about change in their situation?

" Are the middle class and the powerful given the opportunity to join in common cause with the poor to confront the systems of the city and seek their transformation?

* Is there a spiritual transformation that is going on in the city, or is the change only social? Are the lives both of that city's poor and of its powerful being changed by God?
