Here is our Statement of Faith

Our Beliefs

 Foursquare Declaration of Faith

The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Bible is God-inspired (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

The Eternal Godhead
We believe God is Triune: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14).

The Fall of Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience he fell from innocence and purity (Romans 5:12).

The Plan of Salvation
We believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, signing the pardon of all who believe on Him (John 3:16; Romans 5:8).

Salvation Through Grace
We believe that we have no righteousness and must come to God pleading the righteousness of Christ (Ephesians 2:8).

Repentance and Acceptance
We believe that upon sincere repentance, and a whole-hearted acceptance of Christ, we are justified before God (1 John 1:9).

The New Birth
We believe that the change which takes place in the heart and life at conversion is a very real one (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20).

Daily Christian Living
We believe that it is the will of God that we be sanctified daily, growing constantly in the faith (Hebrews 6:1).

Baptism and the Lord's Supper
We believe that Baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work (Matt. 28:19). We believe in the commemoration of the Lord's Supper by the symbolic use of the bread and juice of the vine (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25).

Baptism with the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is to endue the believer with power; and that His incoming is after the same manner as in Bible days (Acts 2:4).

The Spirit-Filled Life
We believe that it is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit daily (Ephesians 4:30-32).

The Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit has gifts to bestow upon the Christian; and that we should show spiritual fruit as evidence of a Spirit-filled life (1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:22).

Moderation
We believe that the experience and daily walk of the believer should never lead him into extremes of fanaticism (Philippians 4:5 KJV).

Divine Healing
We believe that divine healing is the power of Christ to heal the physically sick in answer to the prayer of faith (James 5:14-16).

The Second Coming of Christ
We believe that the second coming of Christ is personal and imminent (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17).

Church Relationship
We believe it is our sacred duty to identify ourselves with the visible Body of Christ (Acts 16:5; Hebrews 10:25).

Civil Government
We believe that rulers should be upheld at all times except in things opposed to the will of God (Romans 13:1-5).

The Final Judgement
We believe that all shall stand some day before the Judgement Seat of God, and there receive eternal life or death (2 Corinthians 5:10).

Heaven
We believe that heaven is the glorious eternal home of born-again believers (John 14:1-3; Revelation 7:15-17).

Hell
We believe that hell is the place of eternal torment for all who reject Christ as the Savior (Revelation 20:10,15).

Evangelism

We believe that soul winning is the most important responsibility of the Church (James 5:20).

Tithes and Offerings
We believe that the method ordained of God for the support and spread of His cause is by giving of tithes and free-will offerings (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7).

The Foursquare Family

 What is a Foursquare Church?

As part of a large world-wide fellowship of churches that celebrates more than 1.5 million converts for Christ per year, we enjoy synergy in a harvest initiative that has now spanned over 80 years.  The Foursquare church began as a revival and healing movement born out of the Azusa Street outpouring in Los Angeles which soon found its home near Echo Park, in the famous Angelus Temple.  Through the ministry of Aimee Semple McPherson, our founder, a large network of missionary-minded church plants and missionary endeavors joined in the '20s, led by one anointed lady with a passion to heal and to bring people to Christ.  Today each Foursquare church is a member of the International Church, which provides life, support, and government for the movement, while each church is allowed the beauty of individuality, as well as consistency in a modified-episcopal model of government, where pastors are appointed, or matched with the people they serve.

Our Movement's Name

"Foursquare" is a Biblical term used of the tabernacle in the Book of Exodus, of the Temple of the Lord in Ezekiel 40:47, and of Heaven, as described in the book of the Revelation. The term "Foursquare Gospel" was given in the inspiration of revival to the denomination's founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, Calif., in 1922. It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the Gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8, displayed in Foursquare churches proclaiming, "Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Today and Forever."

The name represents the four-fold ministries of Jesus:

The Savior

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him..." -Isaiah 53:5 (Titus 2:14, Is. 55:7, Heb. 7:25, Is. 1:18)

The Baptizer with the Holy Spirit

"For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit... you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." -Acts 1:5,8 (Jn. 14:16-17, Acts 2:4, Acts 8:17, Acts 10:44-46, 1 Cor. 3:16)

The Healer

"He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses..." -Matthew 8:17 (Mk. 16:17-18, Mt. 9:5-6, Acts 4:29-30)

The Soon-Coming King

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout... the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." -1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (Titus 2:12-13, Mt. 24:36-44, Heb. 9:28, Lk. 19:13, Lk. 12:35-37.)

Vision

The vision of The Foursquare Church is to present Jesus Christ, God's Son, to every person in every culture and nation as The Savior, The Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, The Healer and The Soon-Coming King. Since the founding of The Foursquare Church in 1923, that vision has been realized through evangelizing the lost and establishing local congregations in the United States and abroad, through the nurturing and training of believers into leadership on all levels of church life, and in cooperation with other members of the body of Christ at large in the fellowship of the Gospel and the fulfillment of the biblical mandate to be "light" and "salt" on the earth.

Strategy

The strategy of The Foursquare Church is to follow the pattern of church development found in the New Testament. The Holy Spirit led the Early Church in this development. The pattern has four stages. It helps us understand where we are in the growth process and where we need to go. Each stage is different but connects closely with the others.

  • Stage 1: Pioneer
The church starts when workers bring the lost to Christ and plant local congregations. The goal is responsible disciples who evangelize and reproduce themselves. The church at Thessalonica in Greece started this way (Acts 17:1-9; 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10).

  • Stage 2: Establish
The church grows stronger when workers give practical Christian teaching and train leaders. The goal is responsible, reproducing leaders who serve their families and the local church. The church on the island of Crete matured this way (Titus 1-3).

  • Stage 3: Empower
The national church organizes to govern and support itself and to do its own evangelism in a way that is sensitive to local cultures. The goal is responsible local congregations that plant other churches. Together they become a national church movement to reach the entire country. The church at Ephesus in Turkey developed and multiplied this way (Acts 19-20).

  • Stage 4: Send
The national church reaches out to people of other cultures and languages. The goal is responsible national churches that send and support workers who serve other cultures and countries. In obedience to the Holy Spirit, the church at Antioch in Syria became such a church when they sent Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:1-4).

SUMMARY
Each national church preaches the gospel within a growing sphere of influence as it moves through the four stages. It looks forward to the day when "this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:14). The spirit of The Foursquare Church is loving unity. It seeks to provide affirming and freeing relationships while following New Testament order. In so doing, we carry out the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. We glorify God and advance His kingdom.
