Restless in Seattle

Dictionary.com says that to be restless is to be "never at rest; perpetually agitated or in motion." As Christians, from time to time we may find ourself in that state...the state of restlessness. Sometimes restlessness is a good thing, because it forces us to make things happen, but at other times restlessness can cause us to never find peace in a situation. Many a Christian have left church, spouse, family, and friends, because they became restless...needed something to change in their life, but didn't know what change was needed; therefore, they forced a change that wasn't sanctioned by God.

Jesus knew that there would be times in our lives when we would become restless. He knew there would be times when we simply had a need to fill a void in our life, but we'd be confused with what we needed to do to fill that void. That's why in Matthew 11:28-30 he told us "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The next time you feel restless, turn to God's Word, and as you read it, ask Him to open your eyes, your heart, and your spirit so that you might understand what change (if any) is needed in your life. As you do that, you'll find rest in Jesus, and peace in knowing you're in God's will.

Featured Website

This month's featured website is the Voice of Martyrs (VOM). As Christians, we need to be aware of the persecution that our brothers and sisters are facing all over this world. The top story today tells of a pastor who was recently killed for sharing the Word. Let's visit websites like this one from time to time, and pray for our brothers and sisters who are spreading the Word in dangerous parts of the world. You can also contribute financially as the Lord leads you. Here's the website: VOM

A Good Excuse

There's nothing like a good excuse...especially when it comes to why we don't attend church, but what if we applied those same excuses to eating...we might find ourself a little lighter :-)

1. I was forced to eat as a child...now I'm an adult, I don't need to eat.

2. People who eat all the time are hypocrites; they aren't really hungry.

3. There are so many different kinds of food, I can't decide what to eat.

4. I used to eat, but I got bored and stopped.

5. I only eat on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter.

6. None of my friends will eat with me.

7. I'll start eating when I get older.

8. I don't really have time to eat.

9. I don't believe that eating does anybody any good. It's just a crutch.

10. Restaurants and grocery stores are only after my money.

Is Your Hut on Fire?

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?"

Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.

"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

The Moral of This Story: It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.
