Rev. Stephen S. Niles has served the First Presbyterian Chuch of South Sioux City as our pastor since September of 1999. Steve is a 1999 graduate of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, which he attended after working as an instrumental music teacher in the public and parochial schools of Nebraska for eighteen years. Steve's wife Linda is a registered nurse with Hospice of Siouxland. They have three boys. Philip is a registered nurse working with a mobile kidney dialysis unit in Omaha, where he and his wife Melissa live. Jonathan and his wife Cristine live in Columbus, NE where Jon is working as the director for the Center for Survivors out of Columbus. Emily Evelyn joined Jon and Cristine at their home on May 15, 2006. Christopher and his wife Stephanie live in Omaha, while Chris works out of Ashland, NE for the Nebraska Army National Guard. Linda and Steve with Chris's family welcomed Chris home from Iraq last June 11th. He was serving as part of the continuing American armed forces support in that country this past year. Their son Noah Michael was born on September 24, 2005. And Maggie Mae joined their household on June 20, 2008. The Niles family is pictured below in a photo taken December, 2010.
The music ministry of our congregation is a very vital part of the church's life and ministry. The adult choir has been directed by Janet Fredricksen over the last ten years. She died this last summer from cancer and will be dearly missed. Our new choir director is Mr. John Calahan. John is a senior music education major at Morningside College in Sioux City. John's home is in Lincoln. Jane Rapp directs our Bell Choir. We are blessed to be served by Neal Ehrich and Patti Boyle who share in the duties as church organists, with Pam Lowe filling in for us as needed.
Dick Leitschuck serves the session as its clerk. Those elders presently serving on the Session are Dick Anderson, Jeb Archer, Wayne Benson, Eric Bertness, Dick Leitschuck, Jeff Lantz, Marilyn Morse, Bill Quinn and Michelle Rapp. The Board of Deacons is chaired by Cindy Barnes.
