Quasaquicentennial Celebration In 1887, the same year South Sioux City was incorporated as a town in Nebraska, our early Presbyterian ancestors began the construction of the first church organized and built in South Sioux City which they occupied in 1888. On July 6, 1924 that original structure was destroyed by fire. Through the years that followed our present facilities began to evolve. The basement church was completed in 1929, the sanctuary in 1952 and our present education wing in 1974. In 2012 we will celebrate our 125th anniversary. As we prepare for this celebration we are looking for volunteers to form a committee to spearhead and organize the festivities. If you would be interested in being a part of this special time in our congregation please speak with Pastor Niles or one of our members from our session or Board of Deacons. The Deacons are already brainstorming some possible programs and activities that would span all of next year as we celebrate where we have been, how far we have traveled, and dream with God of the possibilities that lie ahead of us.

Mitten Tree
The Rebecca Circle is again sponsoring a mitten tree in the sanctuary’s entryway. Please share with others by placing new mittens, scarves, socks, and hats on the tree by the outer doors. These items will be shared with the children of our community who need them to protect them from the cold of winter. Warm your heart by helping a child keep warm this winter.
New Wireless Hearing Assistance In the very near future a wireless hearing aid system will be available for worship and other activities in the church building. Eight units are being made available through memorial gifts given in memory of Gerry Anderson.

Christmas Joy Offering Presbyterians have long celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ by giving generously to an Advent offering. The roots of the Christmas Joy Offering date back to 1933. This offering is used today by the Presbyterian Church to provide supplemental income for retired church workers and to help support the Racial Ethnic Schools and Colleges of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) . Offering envelopes are available in the sanctuary pew racks that you can use to give to these worthy causes. There are also envelopes available in the church office that can be used. We will receive the Christmas Joy Offering throughout the Sundays of Advent and dedicate this offering on Christmas Eve . Last year we gave $700 as a congregation to this offering and we ask you to give generously this year so that we can top the $750 mark in our giving to the Christmas Joy O ffering.
