Fear God Factor

This skit requires a little ad-libbing.  If weather permits, it is suggested this be performed outdoors.  If you perform indoors, it is suggested that you have tarps down or perform in an area that is not carpeted.

Cast:

Helpers (minimum of 2)

Host

3 Girls (Ruth, Ester, and Mary)

3 Boys (John, Peter, and Simon)

Narrator (to read the biblical passages)

Materials needed:

¨       Grapes (at least 5 lb. per player)

¨       Metal basin

¨       Measuring cup (large)

¨       Timer

¨       Bucket to dispose of grapes and juice


Biblical reading: John 2:1-11

Host: Welcome contestants to Fear God Factor.

Contestants:     respond with hello, hi, etc.

Host:  Are you ready for your first challenge?

Contestants:  Yes

Host:  Your first challenge is this.  (Unveil area)  You have 30 seconds to stomp the grapes.  The four contestants who have the most liquid continue to the next round.  The two contestants with the lowest amount go home.  We drew names, and Peter you’re the first up. 

Peter comes forward, takes of shoes, etc.

Host: are you ready?

Peter: yes

Host: Go (start time clock)

Host will motivate Peter to go faster, etc.  Other contestants can try to ‘talk trash’.

Continue this with all contestants.  Announce amounts of all contestants, lowest two  go home and do the ‘walk of shame’.

Host: Congratulations everyone, let’s get out of here.  (All exit)

Helpers change the set


Materials:

¨       Two large glass bowls

¨       Gallon ziplock bag filled with broken pieces of bread.  One for each contestant (4 total)

¨       One container of sardines per player (4 total)

¨       Timer

¨       Scale

¨       Bucket to dispose of food

¨       Water and cups to allow contestants to drink

¨       Bucket in case anyone needs to get sick

Biblical reading: Matthew 15: 32-37

Host: Congratulations on your ability to make it to the second round.  Are you ready to find out what your next challenge is?

Contestants:     Yes, you bet, etc.

Host: Your challenge today is to transfer these loaves of bread and fish with your mouth from one bowl to the other.  The two contestants with the most fish and bread transferred in 30 seconds will go on to the final round.  The rest of you go home.  We drew names again, and Mary you are first up.

Place bread in the glass bowl, pour sardines over bread so fish are on the top and the juices from the sardine can soaks into the bread.

Mary: All right

Host: Are you ready?

Mary: You bet.

Host: Any reservations?  The fish smell bad…  (Banter with Mary).  

Host: Let’s Go!

Host: Go (start time clock)

Host will motivate Mary to go faster, etc.  Other contestants can try to ‘talk trash’.

Continue this with all contestants.  Announce times of all contestants, slowest time for girl and boy go home and do the ‘walk of shame’.

Host: Congratulations you two, let’s get out of here.  (All exit)

Helpers change the set


Materials:

¨       One 2x4 cut 4 feet long

¨       Rope - tie ropes to buckets and attach securely at the ends of the 2x4

¨       2 large plastic buckets

¨       Rocks (at least 100)

¨       Black markers

¨       Timer

Prior to the start of the church service, ask the congregation to write a sin of the world on a rock.  Place the rocks into the two buckets

Biblical reading: John 8:1-12

Host: Welcome ____ and _____ !  Congratulations on making it to the final round.  Are you ready for the final challenge?

Contestants:     Yes, you bet, etc.

Host: You will place this wooden bean across your back.  At the ends of bar are two buckets.  In these buckets will be the sins of the world.  The person who can hold the sins of the world the longest will receive the greatest reward.  Are you ready?  Let’s begin!!

Helpers help place beam onto contestant’s shoulders.  Buckets are attached to the end. 

Host will motivate contestants to hang on.

Host:  Oh __ you couldn’t hold on.  Congratulations _____ you made it!  You stomped the grapes, transferred the disgusting fish and bread, and showed your strength to the very end!  And that’s another edition of Fear God Factor.
