Our vibrant joyful church was established in Weeping Water after a lightning fire destroyed Grand View Country Church. In October 1919, sixty-eight people signed a covenant to build a church. The new church gathered by 1921 with plans for a new fellowship.
Since 1921, First Christian Church has had 33 ministers. Additions are recorded through profession of faith, baptism, change in church membership, or by statement of faith. Several other congregations have been built in Weeping Water. We are experiencing a new birth as a congregation. We welcome input from the community, our town, and the world.
Our congregation is autonomous (self-governing) subject only to the authority of Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament. We belong to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska. Written, taped, or CD copies of the preaching ministry are available. We cooperate with chuches in the Weeping Water Ministerial Association with special services for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, baccalaureate, early morning sunrise Easter service, and other worship opportunities. We are a member of the Cass County Clergy Association. We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only.
