Notes from the Church Office

Patricia Wood, Office Administrator has office hours on  Monday and Thursday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Midweek prayer and meditation

On Tuesdays,  time 5:00 to 6:30 pm. From 5:00 to 6:00 individual quiet/reflective personal meditation time, 6:00-6:30 occasional scripture reading or poem, common cup communion, silent prayer, Lord's prayer.  The midweek (no sermon) offering is in response to a need for those wishing to have the church open on Sunday as well as another time to be able to worship in a more simplified but meaningful manner.

Summer Worship

We have started our summer schedule on June 15, worship at 9:30, no Sunday School. The remaining outdoor service will take place on August 10th at Grand Hill, Mont Vernon.  In the event of rain, worship will take place in the church.

Donations to the church

We now have a link to Pay Pal, located on the Home tab. This is an added convenience for our members and friends.

Thank you

We want to extend a special thank you to Steve Hanlon and Alan Smith for their donation of time, talent and materials to handcraft the beautiful oak coat rack located in the entrance to our church. Their next project, to make new flower boxes of a more durable material, may be completed by the time you read this newsletter. Thank you and God bless you for doing God's work.

Web Site update

We have updated the Youth Happenings  page to include many great internet links,  and the Music Ministries page with details on Bible readings and the hymns we will be singing each Sunday.   The Youth Happenings page has a short summary of the Sunday School lesson for the week.  This will let parents know what Bible reading and lesson will be taught each week. Please take a moment to look at these improvements.

Choir updates

We are looking for choir members.  Do you love to sing? Choir rehearses Sunday at 9:15 am until before worship at 10:30.  Please see any choir member if you are interested.  Abby, our pianist, and our Pastor, Graham, are coordinating the Music Ministry.

Bible study

The Sunday morning Bible Study group will be meeting during the summer at 8 a.m. in the Round Room. The Thursday evening group will resume meeting on September 4th.

Financial News

We have concluded the financial stewardship campaign for 2008.  Included in our budget is our Pastor, Christian Education including Bible Study, Sunday School and monthly family activities, worship supplies including music and funds for maintenance of our Church and parsonage. If you have not made a pledge, please do so soon. Pledge cards have been mailed to all members and friends. Anyone can  make a tax-deductible donation to the Mont Vernon Congregational Church so we can keep these programs going and maintain our beautiful historic church building. And, please join us for Worship and Sunday School (ages 3-13) Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Please call the Church at 673-3500 for more info on any of our programs. We would love to see you there!

Child care during Worship

We offer child care during Worship for infants through three years old.

Sunday School

Children will come to Worship with their parent and leave from there to go downstairs after the Children's message. During the invocation, two candles are lit for the children and when they go downstairs, they take these candles with them. This is the symbol of the Holy Spirit with us during worship.  After Sunday School, the teachers bring the children upstairs to join their parents.
