The Greek Orthodox Community of Kimisis Theotokou was founded in the heart of the depression in 1931 by a small group of Greek immigrants, who despite economic obstacles sacrificed themselves to establish a house of worship and a community center. These new Americans wanted to keep their faith alive in their new country.
As the church drew more dedicated members, Kimisis Theotokou became known for its ministry and for its commitment to the community. Organizations began to flourish. In 1933 the Ladies Philoptochos Society was established. In 1936 the Adelphato of Aghia Markella was established. To this day both the Philoptochos and the Adelphato have been our greatest supporters.
The community of Kimisis Theotokou has been fortunate to be served by very dynamic and dedicated priests: Rev. George Menexopoulos, Rev. Simeon Emanuel, Rev. Ioannis Strongilos, the late Metropolitan Titus Siligardakis, the late Metropolitan Evdokimos Kokkinakis, Rev. James Bogiatzis and presently the Very Rev. Damaskinos V. Ganas.
As we look ahead into the future, we anticipate accomplishments equaling and exceeding those of our past. The Community of Kimisis Theotokou has consistently responded to the needs of its own neighborhood and to the calling of the world at large. We have throughout the years displayed generosity consistent with the teachings of our faith and will continue to do so with love and devotion and remain a strong and progressive community.
