Ministry:
Our ministry in Utah is church planting in a Mormon culture. Approximately 7 out of every 10 people we meet day to day are members of the LDS Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). As a missionary-pastor I preach, teach, shepherd, visit, counsel, marry, bury, and co-ordinate as any pastor anywhere would do. We are blessed every year to host sometimes several out of state groups to assist in this ministry. These short termers typically engage in door to door surveys, literature distribution, new move in calls, and summer children’s programs. God has been pleased to use M.A.P. (Missionary Apprenticeship Program) not only to reach the lost and locate Christian families in our area, but also to produce a new generation of missionaries.
Our staple approach to evangelism here is the placement of gospel literature (anything from a simple tract to a full length book, but not anti-Mormon in nature) with a request the contact please read it for us and give us his/her response to it. That has built many bridges into Mormon homes. We have developed an approach I call doctrinal evangelism based on the principles of Titus 1:9. The six areas we address are how to discover the truth, the Bible, God, man, Jesus Christ, and salvation. Our unsaved friends in Utah are caught in a web of error which must be dismantled lie by lie and truth is the only way to do that.
We currently serve at Trinity Baptist Church, located in the southwest quadrant of the Salt Lake Valley. Trinity was organized in 1989. Since then we have met in a succession of rented and borrowed facilities. By the grace of God, ground was broken July 9, 2000 for our own facility. We are confident that God will complete what He has begun here since out Savior’s promise is, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
