Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church is a parish of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod located in Ridgewood, a residential neighborhood in New York City's borough of Queens. Although for many decades it remained a largely German enclave, Ridgewood in recent years has welcomed significant numbers of immigrants from eastern Europe and Latin America. It is solidly middle-class, and entire blocks of its distinctive yellow-brick row houses are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Parish life at Emmaus, like many things in Ridgewood, has changed over the years, but it continues to be anchored in the "evangelical catholic" tradition of Lutheranism, with an emphasis on liturgical and sacramental worship, conservative biblical preaching, and sound catechesis. On a typical Sunday morning the faithful who gather to worship here include youngsters and seniors, singles and married couples, newly-received members and life-long Lutherans. Visitors often remark on both the friendliness of our congregation and the beauty of our worship.
Whether you are a resident of our little corner of New York City or are visiting us from elsewhere, we bid you welcome and hope that you will find at Emmaus the strength and comfort that only God's Word can give.
