Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish of Albion, NY

The Building of a New Community - A Working Holy Family  (original concept)

Holy Family Parish utilizes the St. Joseph's Campus as the primary site for all weekend liturgies as well as holydays and various other services and devotions. Bishop Kmiec approved the decision for St. Mary's Assumption Oratory Campus  to be creatively used in any of a variety of ways permitted that benefits the community. Planning committees and parish ministries shall assist the pastor in exploring all the options aimed at restoring vibrancy and vitality.

The Maintaining of the New Community (a re-defined concept)

The thrust of development will be directed toward the main campus with no intentions of any increased activity at the Oratory Campus.  Because of this direction, a decision was made on July 13, 2009 to begin the orderly process of closing down and ridding the St. Mary's Assumption properties.  This will eliminate the cost of maintaining idle buildings and properties.

THE STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE HOLY FAMILY PARISH OF ALBION "AREAS OF FOCUS FOR CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT"

Area #1:

Responsible Stewardship through Financial Stability

TRIMMING EXPENSES WITHOUT SACRIFICING SERVICES

The Wise Use of Money

  • supply & demand issues - review & modify spending habits based on needs
  • postage & mailing practices - incorporate bulk rate usage & cease non-essential mailings

The Best Use of All Buildings/Properties at Both Sites

  • proper sizing of space - (people vs. space) - small areas are generally less expensive to maintain than large areas.
  • best use of idle space - remove/relocate stored material and/or junk from potential valuable work/activity spaces. Incorporate idle property at St. Mary's Campus to its fullest potential.  The active use of St. Mary's is officially no longer being considered (7/13/09 Parish Council Meeting).

Inventory of Property

  • sale/disposal of unused/stored furniture - from all buildings at both campuses
  • disposal of junk - "if it can't be made functional or has no purpose, get rid of it"

Energy Conservation & Audits

  • Windows & Doors - drafty sources means $ is escaping. Fix or replace faulty units. Refer to and follow energy audit recommendations.
  • Roofs & Basements - preventative maintenance is less costly than crisis repairs
  • Heating/Cooling Systems & Practices - install/utilize setback thermometers & zone heating, consider central cooling. Refer to and follow energy audit recommendations.

Utility Costs & Trends

  • Electrical usage - retrofit high wattage incandescents with more efficient CFL lightbulbs.  Turn off lights in rooms that are idle.
  • Natural Gas - regular heat plant efficiency monitoring and practices
  • Water - repair leaks and monitor plumbing fixtures
  • Telephone - limit long distant calling, research alternate, less expensive ways to communicate.

Fuel consumption

  • Gasoline/Diesel - monitor odometer readings/hour meters on vehicles and equipment. Cut unnecessary travel by 10% to start.

Maintenance & Repair Program

  • Develop and implement a structured routine for easier and more efficient management. (end micro-managing).
